To get the 3-3-3 tone at bedroom volumes what would sound best?

I use an Air Brake and it works good. That "3-3-3 tone" doesn't seem to work equally with everybody, it depends on the speaker, cabinet, guitar etc. I prefer something like 3-1-2/3-2-1, the tone is similar but less fizzy/farty with my G12C/S equipped 1x12 cab. With my 10'' Celestion Gold equipped cab settings are completely different. Anyway, the amp doesn't have master volume or power scaling.

I use a brake lite as well, and tend to use 3-12-3 or 3-1-3 more often with a Z 2x10 cab generally playing a Strat or ASAT. I roll bass back to 9 or lower if I use my McCarty or LP (which is not often)

I use a brake lite but I’m really giving the air brake serious consideration for true bedroom amp break up. Brake lite is great though

I have had 2 Z28s, a 2x10 combo with Z speakers and my current 1x12 combo with a WGS Reaper HP. The 2x10 with JJ6V6S's and a 5751 in V2, at 3-3-3 with a P90 guitar was incredible. But too loud to use, pretty much anywhere. My current one has Gold Lion ri 6V6s and while the WGS speaker is IMO hands down better than the Greenback it replaced, just doesnt do the 3-3-3 thing as well. I always find myself turing the bass down. 2-1-4 is as close as this Z28 wants to get. My next gear purchase will be a new set of tubes, going back to JJs but the newer double mica ones that don't rattle so bad. May try another 5751 in place of the NOS GE 12AX7 in it now. This one has the Brake Lite though. One thing I absolutely remember is, the Z28 is more sensitive to tubes than any amp I've ever had. Going from one brand to another can mean BIG tonal differences.
