I’m slowly getting my little jam room put together and now I need to look in to bass amps. I’m digging Hartke, mainly because I did a gig where the bass player had the best sound I’ve ever heard through a Hartke. I can’t remember which amp it was but it was a 4X10 combo.
Anyway, I’ve about got it down to the HD500 (2X10) or the KB15 kickback (1X15). These contenders are both 500 watt combos with the HD500 being about $150 more.
The application is a smaller jam room and possibly the occasional gig. I can play bass but never do. I could only see the amp being removed from my house about once or twice a year, if I get a call from a desperate band who’s bass player stood them up.

Those will work well as will a Mark Bass 1/12 combo. You could also do a DI into the PA if you have a sub and save space. I play bass for a couple bands and find the MB 12 a simple rig I can augment w a DI feed to the PA and bring the thunder. Hartke has this on most of their amps, too so if you're set on that get one and you're ready to roll.

Backline riders almost always spec Ampeg or Hartke amps. I know a couple of local bass players who have used and liked the Mark Bass stuff but have recently had reliability problems. I'm like you. I like the Hartke sound.

I've got a Hartke 1 x 15 combo that my bass player uses in my jam shack weekly. Bought at a garage sale for $100 (with a spare speaker) about 15 years ago. Sounds great, and obviously is very dependable to the extent I never even think about it....

I wish they had garage sales around here with musical instruments! I always slow down and look, but never see any!

I had the same decision for my basement jam area. I picked the Hartke HD500. I did not try the Kickback, so I can't offer a comparison, but I think the HD500 was a good choice. It's loud enough for a band, and still sounds good with the volume on 2. Easy to EQ. The "real" bassists that have played it like it. No regrets.
