I have a great strat, a 1993 G&L Legacy I've owned for 20 years. It's my best guitar. It's been my #1 thru many amps over that time, and still is thru my 1966 Super Reverb.
I also have 2 teles, both G&L Tribute ASAT Classics that I gutted and upgraded electronically(CTS pots, good, switch, good jack, new pickups). One has Fralin Blues Specials and a 4 way switch, the other a Bluesboy with a SD Jazz and Cavalier Fat Lion.
Thru the Z28, they both beat the strat. The strat sounds too clean and thin(especially the bridge pickup). Both teles just have a girth to them the strat doesn't thru the Z28(at least to my ears, amp set the same, 10-10-11, BL on 2, with pedals). Even the one with the Fralins, which are the most articulate pickups I've ever had.
SO what's the consensus, tele or strat? I think I'm gonna put the strat away, saving it for Super Reverb moments only.

I would play with the Z28 tone controls. I have an ASAT classic and an 81 Strat, and both sound great though the Z28, but I do adjust the tone of the amp a bit.

I ended up putting my rc boost 2nd in chain so I could eq a little more...the simple treble and bass sometimes adds enough something to get it over...there a setting in there for that strat...

While I love the neck pickup tones with my Legacy (with Suhr Landau pups), I quickly forget about it when the bridge pup on my ASAT Classic (with Lollar Special T's) is breathing tone from my Z28. They both have an important place, but if I had to choose it would depend on what style I would be playing most for the next month or two.

I can make minor amp and pedal adjustments and love the strat thru the Z28. Up the bass and volume a tad, lower the treble. I have 2 dirt pedals on my Z28 mini board: a BB Preamp and a Timmy, so I can cut/boost T&B at will.
Observation I didn't catch 5 years ago when I had my 1st Z28(a 2x10 combo):having multiple guitars with slightly different output pickups, the Z28 reveals and spotlights those differences! And that's a good thing. How many have plugged into our buddies gained up Marshall with a strat and not sounded much different than him and his SG? With the Z28, 1k worth of single coil pickup resistance is huge! This amp gives you exactly what you put into it, like it or not!
Both teles are "hotter" than the strat. I usually take 2 guitars on gigs, and the 2 teles like the same knob settings. Taking the strat would mean having to readjust everything between songs/sets. I think the Z28 will be my tele amp, since the Super Reverb already claimed that strat!

Stratocaster into Z-28 V 12:00-1:00 B 12:00-1:00 and T 2:00 + with a Z 112 and/or 210 cab underneath. Diamond J-Drive and a Flying Dragon for flavor ... my current faves ..... could also put in the SL Drive or a BB Pre
Open up some windows and doors to share your sounds with the neighbors ....
cheers always,
Joel

I've found, my amp with my speaker(WGS Reaper HP) is at full blues band gig volume with the Z Brake Lite on 2 in most rooms I'll ever play. While I love cranking the Z28, if I can play THAT loud, I'm using the BF Super Reverb. I have the Z28+pedalboard+Brakelite+tele set PERFECTLY, for gigging.

Cool rig. I see a Tumnus Deluxe, OCD and a Timmy on your board, so I assume you set your Z28 as a clean amp/pedal platform. What are your amp settings with the tele? My tele with Lollar special t's sound great through my z28. I also love the way filtertrons sound too! That's my current setup. Gretsch and tele, pedal board full of toys, z28. Happy days!

My tele with Lollar special t's sound great through my z28. I also love the way filtertrons sound too! That's my current setup. Gretsch and tele, pedal board full of toys, z28. Happy days! For a nice clean sound with both my gretsch and tele, my settings are generally here: My compression/drive section for the tele look more or less like this: I run the tumnus deluxe as my first drive and use it for a very mild overdriven sound. It’s extremely dynamic and I can get it to sound clean and dirty depending on how I attack the strings. I found that the tumnus sounds it’s best when it’s running into the ocd or Timmy. The Timmy is set as a gritty boost and it pushes solo passages right through the mix. OCD is there when I need my power chords to be a bit more beefy, and it also sounds great into the Timmy. It’s also running at 18 volts using an xotic voltage doubler. The star player on my board is my hand wired mad professor forest green compressor. It’s the perfect compressor for what I use it for. It can get squashy, but I just love how it sounds in milder settings. Very transparent. Funny story with this pedal, I had ordered the pcb version on reverb but the company sent me the hand wired version by mistake. I contacted the company and told them of their error and they let me keep the hand wired pedal. Great customer service and it felt good to be rewarded for honesty. The carbon copy is set for slap back, and the diamond mljr is set for dotted 8th: The flint is set for mild 70s plate reverb and tube tremolo, but on the favorite switch I have a more washy 80s reverb with the mix a bit lower and the tremolo set as a mild harmonic trem. Hope this was helpful. I love this amp. I always have moments of weakness and consider trading it for something else, but I turn it on and am reminded time and time again that this is “the one.” I’ve never even heard it through a 12 inch speaker yet! Lol

Thx. I run my volume a little higher and treble a little lower, but I have a loud 12" and a Z Brake Lite(usually set on 2 clicks). I only in 2 dirt pedals: a Timmy into a BB Preamp. The Timmy is set for lower gain than yours but louder than unity(same T&B, switch in the middle), the BB is at unity but at 80% of its max gain. Only other pedals are(like you) reverb, tremolo, Carbon Copy, a MXR Phase 95(before dirt) and a wah. All and all, our rigs and settings are pretty close!

My volume can be anywhere from 9-12 depending on the situation. I like having a brighter sound live so I tend to ride the treble more than the bass. I’ve yet to dial in a bad sound on the z-28. Can’t say that about a lot of other amps.

With hotter than standard tele pickups, mine is at the edge of breakup. As in, light picking=clean. Regular picking=cleanish. Hard picking=light overdrive. Add Timmy=boosted low gain overdrive. BB=medium gain overdrive. Both pedals=medium gain with added vol, compression and sustain.
The beauty of the Z Brake Lite is, none of that changes when I NEED more or less volume. I start at 2 clicks, which is band volume. Need more, got to 1. Need less, go to 3. At 4, any drummer buries you so I only use that(And I do) when the family is home and I'm playing in the basement.
