Does anyone know why Doc specifies a nos 6201 tube in the v3 (reverb driver) position in the z-lux? He says to use this instead of a new production 12AT7-Ecc81. Thanks for any info.

Hey just sound better to my ear in that amp. That is my only amp with Reverb And Trem combination and the 6201 just works better. A currant production 12AT7 will work , just not as good to me.

Thanks Doc for clearing that up--I have some tubes that would work in v-3 and did not know if i could use them or not. I was having an issue with the lux--after playing a while and when amp got heated up. there would come a sound like a revved up motorcycle. Very intermittent, but happened a handful of times. I swapped all the tubes and it is dead quiet now and has not happened again. I figured it was a tube issue. That is when I got to wondering about the v3 tube. Thanks for the info. The lux is such a great sounding amp.
