Hello!
I am looking at purchasing the cure in the next week or so. However, as I mainly play a strat I’d like to know what the amp sounds like cranked with the single coils. Does it get close to the kind of tone John Mayer has for the solo on his cover of Bold as love?
Also with a fuzz face type face pedal in front of it can I get anything like a Philip Sayce lead tone?
Don’t get me wrong I’m not looking to imitate these players but that super thick singing lead is the kind of thing I’m looking for.
All the chat about the amp makes it sound flawless and very versatile but for all my searching there seems to be very little about the amp being paired with a Strat at a higher gain setting.
I would go and try one for myself but I live 600 miles from the nearest dealer!!
I appreciate any help, thanks!

First off, welcome to the forum! Lots of great folks are here.
I use a Strat with my Cure, but I don't have it cranked. I have mine set "on the verge" (V at 11, Master wide open). The Cure is GREAT with pedals, so you should be able to get what you're looking for. It may take a little knob twisting and some pedal selection, but the Cure definitely has the versatility to get you there. Good luck and report back if you get one.

I don't know anything about Phillip Sayce, but I know Mayer makes pretty extensive use of pedals to get the tones he wants. The Cure is a great pedal platform, very interactive, and you can definitely get great distorted or fuzz tones running through a decent dirt pedal with a Strat. I generally run mine with the volume at about 60%, the master at about 75%, and the level to suit--so not fully cranked, but definitely working the power tubes a bit. It 's still clean-ish at those settings, with some tube breakup with single coils. I generally prefer to run mine without the variable boost switch, bit YMMV, of course.

Welcome. Another happy Cure owner here. I haven't gigged mine with a Strat, but I have used that pairing at home. I agree with Lou and Jon's observations. I'll add that the Cure has a fair amount of gain when you get the Volume knob way up. It's possible that alone may get you where you want. If not, a pedal will take you there.

Hello, and welcome! I play a Strat and a Tele through my Cure. If you run the treble around 2 or 3 o'clock, mids below noon, and bass at noon or above. Then some the master and turn volume past noon to 3 o'clock. Ads a good reverb pedal and you'll be in that realm. I use an xotic RC booster to add a little sizzle. I love my amp. It has the classic tone and a whole lot more if you want.

Thank you very much for the detailed answers to my questions! I hope to have the amp within the next ten days or so.
I am looking to pair it with a Hungry Robot Stargazer V2 reverb and a Keeley Monterey Fuzz/Mod pedal... If anyone has experience of the Monterey through the Cure that would be helpful too!
I will let you all know how I get on with the amp and maybe look at posting a video 🎸🎸🎸
Ps if you haven’t heard Philip Sayce I suggest you have a wee look on YouTube 😁

I will also say that Cure is really wonderful with a strat, and it is wonderful with pedals. You will need pedals to get a really thick pushed tone. It will be awesome. Don't be afraid to crank up the Bass and Mids.

Like Jon, I too wasn't familiar with Phillip, but I just took a listen to several videos. Very much SRV/Hendrix style (IMO). I definitely think you can get there with the Cure. I'd recommend a nice TS style pedal (try the TS Mini, Boss BD-2/Keeley-mod, KOT, etc) and crank the level and back the gain/OD down, maybe off. It'll boost mids and hit the amp hard, which should get you real close.

If not I’ll check out your suggestions!

It's a great strat amp! I love mine with an analogman BC108 sunface. you can run the preamp gain half way up, crank your fuzz and roll off the guitar volume and get SRV & Hendrix style clean to mean tones easily

Go for it, the Cure is one amp I'll go to when I can't decide which one to take, and it's never not had enough. It's a versatile, adaptable amp. Love mine.

I sometimes use the Cure as my od. Using another amp for clean. I crank it wide open and tame it with the level knob. Get some great od - i do hit it with a pedal just to push it in different directions. Also - play like you mean it! If you play weak it sounds weak. Play strong it sounds strong.etc..
