John, yes it's a combo. I usually have it up on a stand maybe almost 3 feet high, don't really like using combo's on the floor unless I can get a good distance away. Can be a shock to hear what the audience is hearing when it's aimed at the back of your knees! But I am pretty much stuck with it being towards a corner as our rehearsal space isn't very big. As for pedals, I did wonder if the OCD is running a bit of a mid-hump right enough. Worked well with the DRRI, but then that's a mid-scooped amp, so you've got a good point. Chilly Gibbons, I've got a ThD hotplate so I'll maybe try that next practise, I'm reading more and more that the Maz likes the MV wound up to get the best from it, that could be part of the trouble too. I'm assuming the mid-hump would be accentuated at lower MV settings as well, and things would tend to level out a bit with the master turned up more? Sorry for all the questions, still learning the way the amp works! I'm thinking that the TMB controls are quite a bit more interactive than I initially realised too. Thanks for the suggestions, any other hints & tips greatly appreciated!

True about the MV, once you get that opened up and the amp starts working you’ll be treated to a glorious overdrive tone that can’t be replicated with the absolute plethora of transistor laden OD pedals out there. Running hot like that will shorten tube life, but it is only two el84s - not expensive and sounds much better.

I like to use a "Standback" or similar device that keeps the amp on the floor to couple the bass frequencies to the floor better. It angles the amp up about 45 degrees. I never did like the loss of bottom end that I always got when I put the amp on a chair or amp stand. This way, the sound disperses way better, especially if you're back against a wall like I usually am. It hits my ears and I hear what I'm about to assault my audience with better.

Thanks for the tips guys, tried a different set-up last night, vol at 12.00, MV around 2.00 to 3.00, and winding up the level on the OCD and dropping the drive a fair bit. Boosting with a TS9 set at full level and drive completely off. Holy sh*t! Night and day difference! Huge sound, quite bassy but in a good way. Boost on and it's just full of harmonics, great sustain, and feels much easier and 'looser' under the fingers, if that makes sense? Absolutely over the moon, happiest I've ever been with my sound! Thanks again for the tips and opinions, much appreciated.

That's exactly how I like to run them. I use the OCD on LP and level about 2 and Gain about 9 and let the amp do the rest.

Hey, welcome to the forum and congrats on a great amp! Long time Maz Sr user here, and more recently a Jr which has pretty much taken over from the Sr, except for a few gigs when I take my Cure.....see, what the guys say is true, it is addictive! Like you, I have found that my Z's do what I always wished my old '72 DR would do, but never did. You can get a nice Fendery chime, but also the breakup is nicer, doesn't mush out on the low notes, and responds better to pick attack. I use the Airbrake on many of my gigs, but only on one click with the Jr. I like to set the amp so it's clean, but on the edge of breakup. Also, I only use my OCD with humbuckers, preferring my KOT with my Strat. For me, it's important to keep the drive on the OCD at around 10 o' clock, any more and it gets mushy. Sounds like you've got it all worked out though, enjoy!
