I have a SA which I use with the Maz18 and it works marvelously! Furthermore, I put a non-SA in my Swart a while back and wanted to share this in case anyone wondered if it would fit. It does ...just barely. This is the regular AST, not the "pro". Here are a couple pics to show how it fit and the accessibility (no problem). Only thing is, there is quite a break angle in the cable at the bottom, but it's not completely taught. It's been in there a while now and has worked flawlessly.

Nice! I got the AST Pro back panel for my AST - Has in/out jacks to throw an attenuator in line. Really useful!
Oh - don't ever try to swap a Tone Tubby Alnico into the aST. It won't fit. Ask me how I know....

A lot of speakers won't fit the standard AST.
To complicate things, a speaker that will fit in one AST may or may not fit in a different AST made the same week! I think I've finally figured out that the chassis mounting position varies slightly sometimes from one amp to the next. It's tight in there.

Ask me how I know.... Fortunately I'm happy with the BV25 (Greenback) . I tried it through my Z112 w/ Gold and it seemed like it was probably the best speaker for that amp (at least with single coils), but I didn't really try it long enough or in enough different situations to know for sure. I've heard a blue can fit in there but you have to re-drill and move the chassis up a bit. Does not seem like it'd be worth the effort. Sorry about your experience with the TT :/
