I avoid using wd40 on most moveable parts whether electrical or not. It cleans and degreases but many moveable parts (pots, switches, bearings, etc.) need to be both cleaned and and relubricated at the same time.
For guitar, amp, pedal parts Deoxit is the standard. I also found CRC 2-26 at home depot and it was cheaper than deoxit. Worked great for my guitar pots so far!
Get the switch with it and don't be afraid to get some in the input/output jacks while you're at it

Cleaning and refurbishing pots and jacks works OK. But if I have a problem with a switch it is time to replace it. You might be able to get it to start working again for awhile but it will start acting up again; probably at the worst possible time. You know how that works.

The CRC stuff works good, but for the long run you may just give AM a shout and just get the button changed out.
