Well, I have a Dr. Z again. Over the years they've come and gone and come again (I've had 3 Ghias, 2 or 3 maz Jr's, a Z28, a monza for a very short time and a cure also for a very short time). Today I traded one of my tweeds for an Antidote head and a killer Morgan custom cab with 1x12(Weber Ceramic) and 1X10 (Weber alnico). Sounds awesome with the Les Paul. It does have some intermittent noises (scratchy/static type sounds that come and go away pretty quickly). I'm assuming tubes and will be retubing soon. If that sounds like a bigger problem to you I'd love to hear about it. Any advice on tube selection for this beast? I'll probably be plunking down the cash for an airbrake too. Pretty sure the cab was a custom order. I couldn't find anything on their site matching this. So far, a killer combination. Very full and punchy but still warm and not harsh at all. I don't know much about those speakers but I know Webers are really good.

Looking forward to your report on that baby.
That sounds like a good trade

This thing is amazing. Just great tone no matter what the setting. Had to replace a preamp tube, which fixed the intermittent noises. Silent now. I am going to try to get a brake lite and see if I can get the volume down a bit with a little grit. Very cool rig.

I love my Antidote. When I think about selling it for something more practical volume wise, I listen to it and change my mind. The Airbrake is always on. It's my #1 amp at church and most gigs. Congrats.

Any advice on tube selection for this beast? Congrats on the big-time new amp! Airbrake is definitely a good idea with an amp that spectacularly powerful. Regarding tubes, unless you want to go NOS (which can be expensive and not always "better"), I'd humbly suggest the following. These would go left-to-right if looking at the amp from the back: V1: Tung-Sol 12AX7 re-issue (graded for low-noise, if possible) V2: Tung-Sol 12AX7 re-issue V3: Sovtek 12AX7 LPS V4&5: Genalex Gold Lion KT66 (matched pair) V6: Sovtek 5AR4 Basically, same as Doc recommends here, except that I prefer mostly Tung-Sol (or even E-H) 12AX7's over JJ's. Buying from a trusted, reliable retailer is always a good idea, too.

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind when it's time to re-tube

I think it is the max. Play it in good health and enjoy the dynamic range those big tubes and tranny get you! Slightly jealous I might add.

Congratulations! I'm becoming more and more an Antidote fan. It's on my short wish list and moving up.
