The fractal fx-8 pedal board..! Haven’t used analog since. But still have my full analog board... just can’t believe I haven’t gone back to it yet!

It’s weird. I still start every pedal conversation with “I’m not a pedal guy, but...” Maybe I have to stop saying that now.
I have purchased several pedals this year. I already had the Strymon trifecta, but decided that their Flint and Lex would be more useful for ease of use (especially performing, which I haven’t been doing.) I use these every day I play- mostly quietly through headphones.
Almost every other pedal purchase this year was to satisfy some sick analog keyboard envy thing I have going (of which I am not proud.) The Pigtronic Mothership might be at the top of that list, but there are some close candidates. I now have a few dedicated to an auto wah effect, primarily, that are quite different from each other. I wouldn’t use more than one on a gig, but two in stereo for spacy recordings is pretty fun.

When I spend a lot of money on a pedal - say over $150 for an OD - I EXPECT it to sound good. I get excited though with a pedal that I got cheap that turns out to be a good one. So for me it was the two mini-series Ibanez pedals I picked up. A Tube Screamer and a Chorus. Both sound good and are very easy to dial in. Also I am still really happy with my Trutone CS12 power supply. OK, I know it's not a pedal.

I can say l was extremely disappointed with the POT not a bad pedal but didn't live up to the hype. Very impressed though with an early UK made Marshall drivemaster and an early 70,s Jen wah both had for not many pennies too.

I traded, sold, and bought a few pedals in 2017. Here's my favorites of 2017:
1) OCD V1 used off of Facebook market page for $50! Very cool pedal and what a price! 2) Wampler Paisley Drive Deluxe. 3) Diamond Comp JR. 4) JHS Andy Timmons "AT" signature drive.
New Amps: Dr. Z Mini Z (Used) Dr.Z Z-Plus!
Fun Year! Here's to 2018!

I already had the mini TS, but I picked up 2 mini Chorus' and they sound every bit as good or better than my '80's original. The other one I'll mention for 2017 was the J Rockett Rockaway. If you like the Klon sound, but need more tonal flexibility, give it a whirl.

I'm trying to perfect TWO pedalboards, my big one for use with my 66 Super Reverb and my small one for use with my Z28. I bet I bought and sold/traded 20 pedals this year! Since the small board/Z28 will see most of the action, I've concentrated on it and think it's complete, with the big one needing 3 more pedals to be perfect.
Best acquisition? It's a pair of pedals. A Wampler Faux Spring Reverb and a Mojo Hand FX Bayou Tremolo. I went through 2 other Reverbs and 3 trems to find these two. Simple GREAT sounding pedals that solve the Z28s lack of verb/trem perfectly.

Favorite 2017 effect: Z-Verb. Best analog tube unit out there. Favorite 2017 pedal: Catalinbread Toponga. Best digital simulation of lush tube reverb in a pedal format.

I picked up a Meris Mercury 7 Reverb. It is an ambient dream, has midi with a small footprint, and has a ton of tricks up its sleeve.

I Love the XOTIC RC booster... so the RC v2 was definitely another grand slam by XOTIC. I also tried my first compressor. I went with the 2 knob Keeley compressor and now realize why so many people use them for clean tones. These 2 mild but powerful pedals made my year in 2017 in the FX world.

How much extra gain does that RC Booster v2 have? I've played the original white one. I currently have a a Fulltone Fat Boost3, but the extra stage on that v2 is intriguing if it's considerable.

Hi, I'm only using the RC v2 in the studio at the moment. So to be fair to your question I can answer for live situations. I use the first side of the RC v2 at the end of my chain and it stays on all the time to beef up the signal chain and tone. I use the 2nd side on the RC v2 for leads and it definitely has enough possible volume to get the Job done! The blue led light on the pedal can be turned left or right to add the desired amount of volume you want. I notice a good amount of gain increase on the 2nd boost side of the RC v2. I have the white RC as well and find the 2nd boost side of the latest RC v2 to have more gain.

Could you guesstimate how much more gain, in terms of a percentage? I.e. 25% more???

Could you guesstimate how much more gain, in terms of a percentage? I.e. 25% more??? Gobs more... Hard to articulate but let's say that with the second gain stage you can get to clipping territory and push a cooking amp or dirty up/ level up whatever you're feeding to it. I have mine before my SL drive at the moment but after my fuzz. That way I can bring up the fuzz if it's not cutting through or drive the front end of the SL and really get it jamming. There are some good demos of the gain possibilities. It's not going to go liquid santana boogie on you but more present and driven sounding.

My 2017 Favorite Pedal would be the One Control Little Green Emphaser. I use it as a solo box. It's subtle but it works great for me. Can be set so you can get a little more gain and not loose any bass. Their description makes it sound like it only does one thing but I'm not using it the way they intended and I like it a lot. All that and it's tiny and not that expensive.

Since I got my 58 VOS 335 I really love my analogman TS808 TV with it. Just such a smooth sound together.

2017 was the year I decided to go from 3 pedals daisy chained to a full on pedaltrain 1 board, with 9 pedals, and a power unit mounted underneath. It was a steep learning curve to say the least but it turned out great. My favorite pedal out of them all would probably be the Nemesis Delay or Strymon Flint. The Flint just adds that subtle depth that I love in my guitar sound but the Nemesis Delay is so inspiring and I feel like I could spend a entire year trying to mess with it and still only scratch the surface. On a side note I placed myself on the waiting list for the King of Tone. That could be 2019 before I see it though lol. Cheers!

Things I like:
Keeley 4 knob compressor (the newer one with the blend knob) - I've gone through way too many compressors. I always end up hating them. I don't hate this one yet. The blend & tone knobs help with that.
JHS Muffuletta - 6 different Big Muffs in a MXR enclosure? Uh, yeah, sign me up! Everything from Gilmour to Corgan lives here. Nice
Things I don't like:
EQD The Depths: Actually, a pretty cool pedal that has a lot of...interesting sounds in it. The one sound I can't quite get is that Machine Gun/Bridge of Sighs, etc. sound. You know, the classic Univibe sound? That's the one I want. This one is going away as soon as I can find what I'm looking for.

Look at the Wilson Effects Haze if you want that Hendrix "Machine Gun" Univibe throb. Mine nails it.
