As I'm sure with some, maybe not most or all, the tone bypass has been mostly a show off or tone demo feature and less a base tone playing feature. Over the weekend I was paying around with different tone setting and so on. Typically I'm on the neck pickup (Strat), a little dirt from the RYRA and Strymon provides the damp. This weekend however I found myself with the volume higher overall, tone bypass ON w/the RYRA and the middle pickup...YES PLEASE!! This setting yielded a hearty amount of spank and feed back when I'd lean into the cab and I felt my tone was a little more "boutique-e", the tone was solid, bold and on the edge, I loved it. I always get a stellar tone out of my Z but this weekend was especially tasty. Anyone use the tone bypass function as their base tone and not just an effect or boost situation?

You know, I was thinking about that just yesterday while playing the mini z. It basically has a permanent tone stack bypass and if I want to be darker or brighter it's easy enough to achieve with the guitar's tone knob or pickup selector. I haven't played the Maz much with the bypass in part because I have the non-adjustable switch. I've been meaning to pick up the new version and have the old one as a hi/lo input selector. That would be a fun minimal board: hi/lo, variable boost, and maybe a delay

I’ve been experimenting with that recently because of my mini z. It definitely makes the Maz a bit more old school and beastly (in a good way).

Yes, I ran the Z-Plus with the bypass always on at its first gig. Volume on the pedal about halfway. I've done the same with the Z-Lux and Cure. Doing so seems to fill out the sound in a very pleasing way.

I went back for a second audition with a new band yesterday. I had gotten some feedback that I was not loud enough at the first audition (I know, go figure). So I took a Boss Blues Driver.
Of course, some solos are not crunchy, so I plugged in the EQ bypass too.
I hit one or the other on every solo and it worked great. I got the gig, too.
