The sweetest sound I’ve heard from a Z amp was my Z-28 1-10 at an outdoor gig. However, it weighed 45 pounds and it was impossible to crank at a small club.
I sold it this summer and bought a Cure and I haven’t missed it. The level control allows me to get that sweet Z sound at a reasonable volume. And it has an EQ boost, effects loop, and weighs only 33 lbs.

Love me some Z28. Probably the only Z I really regret selling. Not a knock on the ones I sold, I just found others that fit my needs better. That Z28 sound still haunts my dreams every once in a while...

I agree the Z28 has been my favorite sound, but it is loud! The Cure has great volume control, and sounds great! But the Z28... If it had a level control I'd buy another in a heartbeat! I wonder how the Z-Plus compares to the Z28...

I grew up on a ‘67 Vibrolux Reverb and have always liked the “American” side of the tube world (6L6 and 6V6). My first Z was a Z28, which I liked very much, and I have since had other Zs (Rati, Route,KT,Therapy,Galaxie,Ghia). I bought the Cure last spring and decided that it would work best for what I’m doing due to its greater degree of EQ control and the level control. It may be my last Z, but I’m not betting the Dr. that this is as good as he can do in an “American” amp, by any means.
