Just wondering if anyone here has done any tube swaps and if so what did you find? I ask this question because I was looking through my NOS tube stash and found some interesting options.

I tried a few RCAs, a Mullard, Amprex etc and they are really too much of a good thing. I feel like this circuit really is well thought out with the stock tubes. I love tinkering and swapping but I didn't find anything that improved my amp.

I've tried a few different tubes in mine too, only preamp tubes though. I would like to try some 5881's that I bought to run in my Z-Lux when I was having trouble with rattling JJ6V6 output tubes. I've got a nice 5AR4 that I should try too. But I found the same thing as zacmac did so far, at least with the preamp tubes. No appreciable difference that couldn't be had by a little eq tweak. Doc is doing amazing things with the current crop of 12AX7A/7025 tubes out there.

Tube swapping can be interesting, but I've found that Doc tunes his amps superbly using tubes we can buy today. Count me as one that sticks with the stock tubes.
