Let's have 'em, I'm not looking to spend a small fortune since I'm new to the pedal but I've been playing around with the fuzz tones in my garage band and have had a blast. I'd like to hear one through my real life rig, haha!!

Cannot beat the Sun Lion from Analog Man.
I used: Fulltone 69 and 70 Hartman Diaz Square Face Cats Eye Mista Fuzz Big Muff
Nothing touches what the Sun Lion can do. At least for my rig.
My only interest fuzz wise right now: I would love to try the Deep Trip Kryptone.

The Wampler Leviathan Fuzz is pretty good and you can pick one up for less than $125 (one at GC right now for $120).

When I crank the guitar volume I get beautiful compression and effortless sustain. I have not found another fuzz that does that so easily. Add in the Ge range master type boost (bass, treble, mid) and it covers so much territory. Mine has low gain Ge transistors in there. Works great with Humbuckers and P90s. I do not have any single coil guitars. Hope that helps.

The only one that I’ve tried that I like is EQD’s Hoof. I’m not a huge fuzz guy though.

Between my Matchless HotBox and Strymon, I've had the noose put on my wallet for costly pedals; the Sunlion falls squarely in that category, haha!!

Sunface is the fuzz side of the Sun Lion. So a Sun Face with low gain Germanium transistors should be the same as the fuzz on my sun lion. Love the analogman stuff.

The only experience Ive had personally with fuzz was when I was about 16, I played a Boss Fuzz and thought it was total garbage but so was my playing, haha!! Later I had an MXR Blue Box, fun to play around with but not too useable in a life setting, for me at least.

Hmmmm.....none I can think of except perceived rarity of some transistors he has used over time. I ordered my Sun Lion recently from AM and it was less than half price of the used ones I saw on reverb.

Not enough treble bite for me. The hoof could go woolly or tight with the tone knob.

The analogman sunlion fuzz is incredible. I been though a whole bunch of fuzz pedals and it is by far one of the best ones. As a matter of fact I was able to get rid of all my other overdrive pedals I just use the sunlion and my strymon el capistan delay. The sunlion has a boost that can boost bass treble or mids and I use it in the mids postion and it just cuts through like a ginsu. Plus you can roll back your guitar volume and get nice overdrive and clean boost tones with it.

The older white dot fuzz'z are the ones that go for more money. I also ordered mine recently and mine was lower as well. Plus he makes them pretty quickly like in 2 -3 weeks.

Roll back the volume on the guitar and get Hendrix Wind cries Mary, little Wing ect... Just real pretty clean tones. Then roll up and get sustain for days. I prefer it over distortion and boring overdrive pedals any day. What I like about the pedal is its perfect for those of us who set are amp up for our tone and then use are guitars tone knobs to get the rest.

Well, last night I watched a ton of demos with the Sun Face (multiple Versions), Peppermint Fuzz and Sun Bender 1.5. Out of all of them I really dug the Sun Bender, a lot! Most of the Sun Face Demos were cool but were still what I've never really liked about fuzz, where it sounds like the guitars signal is being completely destroyed, which I was never a fan of. The Sun Bender 1.5 however was awesome, think fat tone, great sustain all that good stuff. I'll check out some Sun Lion demos today. The real issue beyond choosing which one to get will be location one to demo in person.

I'm kicking myself for waffling on a Silver Rose. Pro Guitar Shop had one -15% as a part of their closeout sale.
Edit to add: expensive, but still very cool and versatile.
I did however pick up an Earthquaker Devices Data Corrupter, but that is a whole 'nother thing.

I use a Skreddy P19 clone. It's a modified Big Muff with a switchable mid boost to help you to cut through the mix. I've tried other fuzzes and Big Muffs (I quite like the EHX Little Big Muff) but the P19 is the best of the bunch in my opinion.

I don't think I've really ever understood how to dial them in but I'm learning. However; I bought a Sunbender 1.5 and it has replaced all of my drive pedals. I don't ever play fully clean but I play with a tone that "reads" relatively clean for most things. I set the volume just above unity at maximum settings in the guitar and then roll the volume back to clean it up. It never gets fully clean but there are so many shades if gain available with the volume control. I haven't tried Analogman's other fuzzes but this one is UNBELIEVABLE!!! It's not cheap but it's the best fuzz I've ever purchased in my opinion.

I have a Fig Fumb Stone Deaf and also a Skreddy Hybrid Fuzz Driver. The Fig Fumb has a wide array of over-the-top fuzz sounds that could be useful all to themselves. The Skreddy is more subtle and refined- as though the intent was to meet the amp halfway to make a sound that neither could do alone.
As with most of my pedals, I do prefer going straight into the amp and finding the best distorted sound. These are both probably outstanding pedals.

I've been a fuzz connoisseur for quite a while, welcome to the club!
It really depends on the amp you play and what kind of sound you're going for. These are my experiences with different fuzzes and amps, but results vary from player to player and pedal to pedal.
Fuzz Faces really dig Marshalls that are already lightly overdriving, or with a light overdrive AFTER them and nothing in front of them other than maybe a wah. My setup for a while was: Germanium Fuzz Face > Way Huge Overrated Special. The ORS was set with barely any drive and some volume. Fuzz Faces are very reactive to your pickups and your guitars VOL knob.
Big Muffs like loud, high headroom amps. Look a J. Mascis' rig, his amps barely overdrive but that muff SLAMS the front end. Marshalls work great with Muffs as well, the best sound I ever got from a muffy fuzz was an EQD Hoof Reaper into a Dr. Z Remedy.
Fuzz Faces = Dynamic, musical, not much low end. Hendrix, Eric Johnson, Duane Allman, Joe Bonamassa.
Big Muff = Scooped mids, thick, heavy, wall of sound. David Gilmour, Dan Auerbach, J. Mascis, Jack White.
A Regular ol' Fuzz Face sounds great, but the Analogmans sound amazing as well. I would NOT get a new Big Muff!! Get either an old green Russian muff, or an EQD Hoof. THE BEST muffy fuzz out there IMO is either the ThorpyFX Muffroom Cloud, or the Fuzzrocious Cat Tail.

Excellent post on explaining the way these awesome fuzz pedals work. I am also a fuzz connoisseur. I have tried many fuzz pedals over the years and I totally agree that Analogman makes the best ones out there today. I just ordered a Sunface NKT red germanium fuzz from him. I still have my sunlion which is really good. What I like about the germanium fuzz pedals is the warmth of them and how well they clean up when you roll your guitar back and its those in between tones that you get that are so organic and rich sounding. I prefer the fuzz over distortion and overdrive. It cuts through better imho. Also its really like a instrument in itself you have to work the fuzz pedal to get what you want out if it and its all with your settings on the fuzz and your guitar volume and tone controls. Once you get the feel of it it all makes sense. The Fuzz faces are the best for this as you stated. I tried many other fuzz pedals but I like the fuzz face type pedals the best. Here is a list of some of the fuzz pedals that I have tried in my quest for the perfect fuzz. Fulltone 69 Fulltone 70 Fulltone 69MK11 Fulltone Soul bender Z-vex Fuzz Factory MJM london Fuzz MJM foxey Fuzz BIG Muff 70's original Big Muff green Russian Prescriptions electronics experience pedal Lovepedal Karl Kr Musical Gypsy fuzz Kr Musical The Fuzz Black Arts pharoah fuzz Wampler Velvet Fuzz Pettyjohn Fuze Analogman Sunface fuzz high gain germaniums Analogman Sunlion Fuzz low gain germaniums. Analogman Sunface Fuzz NKT red ( on order)
Out of all these the ones I liked best where in this order 1 Analogman Sunlion low gain germaniums Just a nice rich sounding fuzz with good clean up. 2 Kr musical Gypsy fuzz really fat silicon fuzz tone thats not harsh and cleans up great. (Hendrix Band of Gypsy tone.) 3 Kr musical the Fuzz Fat fuzz tone with endless sustain cleans up ok but not as good as some others but still a great fuzz.
I also liked the wampler velvet fuzz for a nice lead tone. But it don't have the feel to it or clean up like the Analogman fuzz. Its a great fuzz for someone who don't really like fuzz or use it like a musical instrument. Its more of a fuzz/distortion.
