Like I said previously, this is my 2nd go around with the Z28. I have the same 1993 G&L Legacy now that I did with my first Z28, and it still sounds GREAT! I have 2 other guitars now I didn't have then, both G&L ASAT Classic, both Tributes that I completely electronically upgraded(CTS pots, top notch switch, jack, caps and pickups). One has Fralin Blues Specials and a 4 way switch, the other a Bluesboy with a SD Jazz neck, Cavalier Fat Lion bridge.
The one with Fralins sounds great too, but I am torn. I LOVED the Bluesboy into a Richter 5E3 and a Savage Macht 12x that I had prior, but like it less thru the Z28. Im thinking of selling it and getting something with P90s. I remember digging a cheapo P90 tele with the 1st Z28. Since @$450 ish will be my budget, I'm thinking Epiphone Pro series, either the 339 with P90s or the '56 Goldtop LP P90.
But Im open to suggestions. Who loves P90s with the Z28? What Z28-specific guitar(s) at that price point should I check out?

The PRS SE w P90s sound great w the Z-28 but I feel the Collings 290 I had sounded the best through it. Can't go wrong w a LP Jr single P90 either. I'd adjust the pups on the Bluesboy before you flip it and see if that helps. I love humbuckers w the '28 and tell bridge pickups are the bees knees through it.

Thx. The pickups are perfectly balanced and adjusted, neck humbucker pole pieces included. It sounds good, don't get me wrong, but not AS good as it did plugged into other amps. It's a "hotter" guitar, 9.5k bridge, full-size humbucker neck. I think I'll tweak the amp more FOR it. I've settled on 10:30-9:30-10:30 on the knobs, "2" on the Brake Lite. Works great with the strat and other tele with the pedals. Maybe I just use the Bluesboy for plug and play, amp-cord-guitar applications?

My ASAT Classic has Lollar Special T's in it and it sounds great through the 28 (and the 8 and the Remedy), but both my McCarty's sound great too. I do have a Legacy with Suhr ML pups, and though it sounds good I grab my other guitars 1st. I never bonded with P90's so I'm no help on those.

I've also been down the Z-28 road twice but have never used it with 10" speakers. I've also never played any amp with the Doc's 10s. So while I have played quite a few different guitars and pickups through both the Z-28 heads I owned, my experience probably won't help much. Speakers can change the character of the amp drastically and a guitar that doesn't sound great through a certain set of speakers can be the holy grail through something different. Good luck.

A little knob tweaking and it's all good. That said, unless I'm not using pedals, the Bluesboy will be batting 3rd. The Brakelite + the Greenback + the Gold Lion power tubes and NOS GE 7025 in V2, collectively(and pleasantly), make this Z28 react differently than my old 2x10 w/Z speakers. Still getting to know this one.
Now, if i was amp-cord-guitar with it set at 3-1-3, the hotter pups in the Bluesboy make it rock harder.
