Hi, This is my first post on this forum. It was my 50th birthday yesterday and my amazing wife bought me this: I've only had a chance to use it for an hour or so but it's certainly living up to my expectations. It sounds fantastic straight off and I can't wait to crank it up at the weekend. By the way, the same amazing wife bought me the guitar a couple of years ago!

You have a keeper of a wife!
How did you do that?

The Maz 8 is the only amp I’ve sold and repurchased.

Congrats. Love the MAZ 8.
Try this: Put the amp in triode mode. Plug into the hi input. Turn the Volume knob all the way up. Close your eyes and adjust eq using ears only. Use Tele volume and tone to shape sounds.

So far I have to agree with comments about the bass needing a push on the Maz 8.

Freakboy, (great name) welcome to the brotherhood of the Maz 8. I think you're going to love this amp. It sounds great with humbuckers or single coils. There are many ways to eq the amp for great tones. What Speaker did you get?

Great amp. Great wife. Cool guitar. I had a Paisley Tele for awhile. Kind of wish I hadn't sold it. That bass setting makes all the difference in that amp. Welcome.
What kind of gig will you be using it for?

I have heard on another forum that the G12H has reliability issues but it sounds great anyway.

What kind of gig will you be using it for? I played in bands throughout the late 80s and nineties but retired from that when I was 31 as I thought I was too old! (always regretted that) Nowadays I only play in Church or at home. I would love to get back in a band but I have a young family and work is just nightmarish so spare time is in short supply!

Well, in my opinion you have the perfect amp for what you say you are doing now. Also plenty of amp there for basement jamming with a band if that ever comes to pass.

That was my first Z amp too, and I'm not letting it go. I love my Maz 8 and I've gigged it with our 20 piece big band as well as the Praise Band at church. It handles everything from Sinatra to funk. Great amp, but I found out that Z amps seem to be like rabbits. They begin to multiply.

Great thread! Welcome to the fold Freakboy! You are gonna love that 8 the more you play on it. Perfect for church gigging-that’s what I use mine for as well. I cut my teeth on Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, FireHouse, and a bit of Van Halen. Still love to play that stuff today. Try a humbucker into a B.B. Preamp into your 8 with delay. You’ll be playing “Love Bites” and “Hysteria” before you know it. 😊

Well. 5 days in and it's faulty! Played for 5 minutes on Thursday and there was a high pitched buzz that decreased when I touched guitar or the amp switches. This morning I plugged it into a different power socket and it was fine. Tonight the buzz is back. Tried 3 different leads and 4 guitars but no joy. It sounds like an earthing defect but I'm no expert. Going back to the shop tomorrow. Not a great start to my Dr Z experience! 😣

People say to tighten the bolts on top which is ground I guess to the chassis (don't go nuts but)...I know its a stretch but if you have any v1 12ax7's...try reseating the tubes?...sorry to hear troubles

Did the buzz come back when plugged into the second socket where it worked fine ? Are you in an old house ? I am and I had to search for a socket with a decent ground. Any overhear fluorescent lights on ? Cell phone near the amp ? Might be a good idea to take the top rear panel off and look for a red plating tube.
Hang in there. Doc stands behind his amps like no other.
OK, I just saw your other thread in troubleshooting. So the buzz came back in the second socket... hmmmm. Like purpletele says, it's probably something pretty simple to fix. You might check the tubes for a loose pin. Good luck.

Problem resolved! It was electrical interference from the lights in the room downstairs! Maz 8 is fantastic. Now, does anyone know where I left my tuner?

I was getting a huge buzz through my Cure the other day, and it was plugged into a box that supposedly filters out AC line junk . Tried another Z amp. Same problem. It was a fluorescent light fixture issue. Glad you sorted it out.

Don't feel bad. I can't count the times that newbies have gotten on the forum with stories of how their new Z amp has a problem only to finally figure out it is something else causing the issue. Please don't take offense with the term "newbie". We all were at one time.

Last year I was playing my Maz 8 at band practice and the sound got really fuzzy for brief periods and then cleared up. I did a lot of tube switching and asked for help here on Z-Talk.
The problem would not happen at home. Finally, I figured out that the battery in my Boss TU-2 tuner was low!
Doh! [Slaps forehead.]

Z builds his amps so dang well that it almost never is something besides a tube or the environment the amp finds itself in. If tubes were only as reliable as his amplifiers are...oh, they call that heaven, right?

Welcome to the forum! Congrats on the amp and the wife, nice rig. My Maz 8 is a keeper. Electrical gremlins aside, it is a really great amp. I'm still getting to grips with it but I've found myself strumming one chord over and over and grinning like an idiot because it sounds so good! Way better than any amp I've owned or played through.
