I had my first gig with the Cure today.
Man, what a thumpy (in a good way) little amp. I played at a small college here locally in a fairly small room. We were on ears with an acoustic kit (no shield). I had the amp at about 9 o’clock and the sound guy asked me to turn up (I know right! Red letter day in the old diary).
But back to the sound. The amp had a very satisfying thump in the low end. And it cut great through the mix. I came off stage during one song to hear the fill off of the stage and even with the level set at 11 o’clock and the amp running clean, she held her own with the acoustic kit.
I was using my 97 PRS CE 22 and with the sweet switch I was able to almost have a 3 channel amp experience with just the boost switch. (Clean = sweet setting, a little dirty = humbucker, Katy bar the door = hit the boost)
The sound guy and the vocalist (both guitar players) were very impressed with the amp.
Great amp!!!

I'm taking the Cure out for her second gig tonight. The first one on Tuesday was a benefit at a nursing home, a quite small venue with a small room. The Cure's brilliant Level control allowed a great tone at a very friendly volume. I didn't need any pedals at all. Tonight I'm going to give it the real test, we're playing a large hall where a dinner for 300 or so will be given. It's a venue that I used the Z-Lux for last year, and I have no doubt that the Cure will be up to the test. I'll report back tonight or tomorrow on how it went, and how high I had to set the Level control. I usually run the Master up between 3:00 and full, and the Volume around 11:00 to 1:00. It's going to be a fun night!

It was great, and I didn't even have to get the Level above 1:00. Stellar tone, what an amazing little box of joy the Cure is. I ran the Volume at 11:00 and the Master at 2:00, and when I hit the boost set at about half way up it was just right. I also like the way the wah sounded, and my OD pedals loved it too. I used my Z-Lux at that show last year, and I didn't miss it a bit. I was amazed.

I hit my boost the other night on a ZZ Top song and I thought, “That’s it.” Pedals just don’t have that sound.

I started with a full board and am down to a timmy and a tuner. my trio has a vintage rodgers kit unmic'd, ampeg B100R 100w solid state 15, cure and a powered EV 112 on a stick and the cure works really well at about half volume with the master all the way and the preamp on 2-3 o'clock.
