Welcome, and congrats on an awesome amp! I've been gigging my '05 Maz 38 for years, always sounds good and 100% reliable. I did just buy a 2015 Maz Jr, (and I made sure I got the variable footswitch....agree with digs57 there), and emailed Dr Z about a possible issue which turned out to be nothing, but it was suggested that the amp could be modded to 2017 specs, so if you really want to consider that I would call or email Dr Z. On the other hand there's no way I'd want to update mine, sounds great as it is!

It is best to contact the Z shop for accurate info, but I heard about the upgrades I could do to my 2013 Sr and there were 2 or 3 modifications. A reduction in noise, increase in available reverb ("think surf's up" was the quote) and might have been one more. I agree with Mickey, mine sounds great as it is. Sounds great with a creamback G12m-65, but I think even better with a Z 12. I have the CB in the 1x12 cab but going to put the Z 12 back in the cab.

What is the difference between the variable boost and the normal one? Do they work the same way? Always tone stack related?

What is the difference between the variable boost and the normal one? Do they work the same way? Always tone stack related? The variable part is a volume pot. the older ones don't have that volume knob, but you can add it if your ambitious. The intended use is to step on the by pass pedal and get a growl. The volume knob allows you to adjust volume when engaged. bv

I think the variable boost switch is available from Z for around $35.

I had them decrease the bass a bit as it was pretty bottom heavy. General check up no other upgrades. I don't want them...i like my MAZ as is. I had first one in 2006 and 2nd in 2008. I am partial to the NR. Enjoy your amp. If you are thinking of any mods, try different speakers. Truth is MAZ can do just about anything. If I could only have one it would be the 38.
