....expediate power tube consumption? A pro player I'm friends with started using one with his custom built 6V6 22 watt Marshall Plexi clone and told me, while he loved it and couldn't remember just how old/many hours were on those tubes, that he used them up rather quickly after getting the Brake Lite. He flat out said it could be mere coincidence, but I figure I'd ask here, as I just got one. I can not use it and use a pedal at home if Brake Lites shorten tube life and save the BL for live work.

I'm not sure if there's anything intrinsic to the added load that would affect tube life. Someone with electronics knowledge will have to opine on that. But it seems logical to me that if you have the BL on so you can crank the amp -- which is the point after all -- you will be running output tubes hotter and wearing them faster.

It's not going to be any harder on your tubes than running the amp at the same volume without the attenuator would. An attenuator simply diverts power that would have gone to the speaker and dissipates it as heat.

^yep, this. If you’re running an amp cranked all the time, you will have shorter tube life, regardless of whether attenuated or not. BTW, don’t take that as “Don’t crank your amp”, because we all know how good that sounds!
