Hey all,
As the title says ... open back 212 cabinet
I will say upfront that my play-time with Galaxie has primarily involved 112 (either G12-65 or V-30); stock 210 Z short cab; and some strong moments with a stock standard Z-best. I've liked all the results I've had .... not sure about the neighbors - but that's beside the point
Only combination that I have not really had any play-time at all with a Galaxie - both the non-MV model and MV model - would be an open back 212 cab; especially a Dr Z 212 open back cab
Not that I am looking at one - and maybe I am - however, I am curious about preferred speakers for the Dr Z open back 212 cab to be used with a Galaxie .... possibly as an extension to my 210 combo
I do realize this type of cab is not meant for quiet/restrained/basement/don't wake the baby/please be quiet for the neighborhood ..... and I am okay with that ..... I would be creating a stack of sorts with a 212 cab on bottom and a 210 combo on top ....... maybe to play some of that rock 'n' roll music ...... if I was gonna get a 212 open back cab
So, when if I was gonna get me a 212 open back cabinet to use with Galaxie would a Greenback and H-30 be a good starting point?
cheers always,
Joel

Hey Joel, I've always like Greenbacks in multiple cab set ups. Just something about that rock n roll sound they produce and I think they would sound awesome with a Galaxie. my 2 cents, Todd

I'm curious about that too. I haven't been using my Galaxie lately. I retubed my amp with JJ tubes and got some bad tubes right out of the box. It smoked a couple caps and a resistor or two. I had it repaired but it still needs new power tubes. The tech put the old ones back in and I think that was my initial problem. The amp works great for about 10-15 minutes then starts farting out. I will never buy JJ's again.
Sorry, not trying to change the subject there. I have an Avatar cabinet that has a open/closed back conversion. I have a V-30 and a Scumback H-75 in it. I'm gonna try that cabinet with the open back when I get the Galaxie back in shape.
I've been using my EZG-50 with two 1x 12 open back cabinets. One has a V-30, the other has a Fane A-60 Alnico. Best tone I've ever had.
