I have about 25 shows under my belt now with My Wreck head and 1x12 cab with a Gold in it. During that time, the Wreck has helped me become a better guitar player. I have always kind of struggled with beating the crap out of my strings. Once that is a part of your style, it is hard to break free from it. It isn't like I have not tried to develop a lighter touch because I have. But every time I got into the gig, the old ways would come back.
Then I got the Wreck.
When I first started playing the amp, I noticed real quick that it would not forgive my heavy pick attack. The Wreck on Speed just won't extend any mercy in this area! All the cool things people say about the Wreck are true and all the tones are available to you at a moments notice BUT you MUST have great control of your pick attack to get them.
I am happy to report that after 25+ shows playing the Wreck live has fixed the problem for me. The funny thing is that I wasn't "working" on it between shows or anything like that. Playing it live somehow just fixed the problem. I think the incredible responsiveness of the amp to pick attack tamed me or slapped me into submission. I don't know which.
So, if you want a lighter touch, maybe you should try gigging the Wreck for 6 months or so and see if it tames you! Of course YMMV, but ithe Wreck is not just a tone monster, it's a great teacher too.

Funny the different experiences people have. With a tele the wreck taught me to squeeze the crap out of the low e and a strings and get all the piano-like bass thump and clarity I could get out of them.

I play it with a Tele too. I have noticed that I have a lighter touch on my fretting hand as well as a result of the Wreck.

To me, it does what a maple acoustic does: puts out the real, honest truth. I suppose that I also try to hold it back some of the time, too.

The wreck is super dimensional!!!! Way more depth. Ive put it side by side with many amps and it just has so much more depth to the tones coming out of it!!!

I feel most Z amps offer this luxury. Well, except maybe the Therapy, it lets you beat the crap out of it from time to time and still forgives you regularly.
If my guitar playing self today could meet my guitar playing self from 10 years ago, they'd be two totally different people. I'd still love to snag a Wreck one of these days.
