Looking to return to the Z fold after exploring a few other brands. Very interested in the Therapy and have been for some time. But this afternoon I checked out some clips of the Antidote, which had been under my radar.
Wow. What amazing tone! The Antidote's tones are actually more what I'm after than what I've heard (so far) of the Therapy. My favorite tones of the Antidote are the cleans and edge of breakup cleans - although I'd probably have a LOT of fun exploring the upper ranges of it's volume now and then.
But here's the thing - I need an all purpose amp. I'm not gigging as much as I used to, so I need something that can hang at a gig but also scale down for home playing. From everything I've read, the Antidote is LOUD. Since it lacks a master volume it seems like it's not the right amp for quieter applications. I've also read that the Therapy's master volume is excellent, so that appeals to me.
Does anyone here own both, and is it possible to get the Therapy into the Antidote's clean and low gain territory?
I'm guessing the answer is probably no because they are very different amps.
Dang it though. If an Antidote existed with some sort of master volume I'd probably be on my way back from the local dealer right now!
[oops - typed Remedy when I meant Therapy....that's whatcha get for looking at too many amps online at once! Anyway, I've corrected my post]

Thanks for that Mike! Always hard to tell from these video demos, but I think I'd agree with you. They are close indeed, but I hear something in the top end/upper meds of the Antidote that I prefer. I wonder though if the Therapy could be EQ'd in a way that would bring it closer?

I am intrigued with the Antidote as well, but I have enough amps, I need refined talent.
Lately I have been playing the Therapy real clean.
Master at 3:00 Volume at 9:00
A touch of verb or delay and you are into that dreaming state. Step on a gain changer or similar and your into a deep Overdriven state.
I don't know about the options on the Antidote, but the volume set up on the Therapy make that amp extremely versatile.
However, I do think the Antidote is more Chimey and it seems to be at a slightly brighter pitch which is attractive.
Out of all of my amps that I bought or built, the Therapy has the nicest control of volume and tone all the way down to bedroom levels.
I do not have a Cure nor have I tried one.
As far as a MV on the Antidote, anything is possible on these simple circuits. I didn't check but I would assume that a MV is an available MOD on the Antidote.

I tried a Therapy at a local store and could not dial it in for the life of me. I walked away and chalked it up to some poor tubes. One day I'll seek one out and try it again, however I'm really loving the Antidote. It is loud. At home I'm using the airbrake on the bedroom setting and am very pleased. My tinnitus keeps me under control, but every now and then I'll back off a few clicks. In church I vary with a brakelite generally between 2 and three clicks normal volume at about 11:30, high volume at about 9:00. I can roll guitar volume for nice cleans to edge of breakup and kick in the Timmy if I need something a little heavier. Guitar is a Heritage 535 or ASAT deluxe. Primarily Humbuckers, but the ASAT splits coils. Love the G&L Legacy into it as well. I'm sure both amps will please. I hope my rundown aids in your decision.

No
Antidote is a killer amp but loud. Wish I could have made it work for me. I can see the Antidote leaving the line up now that the EMS has hit the street. More higher end "chime" for lack of a better word. Very Marshally.
Therapy seems "thicker" to me, if that makes any sense. Very American tweed.

There are people that put post-phase master volumes in amps like the Antidote (with negative feedback). Even though the negative feedback + master vol can affect the sound at some point on the dial, for playing at home, it might not matter.
If you like the tone of the Antidote better, it might be worth considering. there also might be attenuator options that might work.
Antidote is like a Marshall JTM 45. Therapy is like an old Fender. For the songs you play, would you want a JTM 45 or Tweed Fender?
