I've had my CG 2x10 for a year and a half now and I love it. But I'm currently in the process of moving, and leaving my gigging band. I'll still be jamming with friends occasionally, but the CG is just too loud for where I'm moving. I have a brake lite, but I'm not a fan of the tone while using it. So I guess I'm asking how well the level control really works. I'll have a small child in the house, so I need to be able to get great tone at reasonable volumes. I want to stick with Z amps, as I'll probably eventually play out again, and I love the tone and them being local to me. Well aware that they're very different amps, but I'm very interested in the cure, and you guys are better informed than anyone. Thanks in advance guys!

It's a dream within a dream. Buy with confidence. Easily the best Z for a home player needing quiet home tones and still rips with the band.

The level control on the Cure is probably the best thing since sliced bread. Seriously though, it really is a piece of Z magic. Buy with confidence!!! Oh, keep the Ghia if you can possibly afford to. Every home should have Ghia.

Yes, the level control is great. That said, anything at whisper quiet levels is going to sound small. But the level control will get you at most different volumes sounding great. It is the reason that the Cure is my first Z.

The Cure can get Ghia esk tones with bass and mids up ...Treble zero. But the Ghia is a very unique amp...as simple as it is. I really enjoy all the extra features of the Cure. The EQ Bypass, effects loop ( for my Z Verb ) as well as the pre wired speaker out ( I use mine with a ceramic Weber Blue Dog in a Z convertible cab ).
The Level control on top of all that makes it the friendliest little amp on the menu. I like the squishy feeling of the Triad transformer...a bit more sag and singing sustain than a Ghia. The Ghia can feel stiff because of the tighter feeling transformer....the stiffness is clarity. The Cure is the most loose feeling of the 3 other Z amps I've had ( Ghia, Monza, Therapy). Not sloppy, still lots of clarity but just a bit more worn in feeling.
I love the cab size and speaker. The Cure is easily the friendliest home/studio/gig amp in the Z line up.

Thanks for all the input, I appreciate it! I'm going to go check one out on Saturday and try to make a deal if I like it.

I think the Ghia is my favorite Z. I love playing through it. I love the feel and sound of the Ghia.
That said, The Cure "works" and does a whole lot of things, covers a lot of ground. The level control works way better than I expected. Way better.
The Ghia is not a bedroom amp attenuator or not. The Cure can be both a gig machine and a bedroom amp.

The Cure is the amp to have if you have only one Z, because I have tweaked a hell of a lot of sounds out of it, and it sounds as good in the living room as it does on a club stage. Of course as someone mentioned the gig volume amp is going to sound a bit more alive, but I'm sure you get what we are saying. I could sell my Ghia, although I do love it, but I can't see ever selling the Cure, it's just too compatible with all the situations I get into from playing at home to bands on stages. And it weighs like 38 lbs!!

i have a cure and love it. definitely can get to low volumes. what i find most interesting about the level control is that i can still have fun playing, even at low levels. some other amps just feel so choked out at low volumes that i always had a hard time getting into it. this isn't the case with the cure.
i'm in Akron. if you are local to Z amps, you're probably nearby. feel free to PM me to stop by and jam and check out the cure (i have a ghia as well if you want to compare). or, go check out guitar riot, i bet the have a cure.

Thanks for all the responses guys. You're telling me all the things I want to hear! I'm planning on heading up to Woodsy's in Kent on Saturday to check it out and see if I can't wrangle a deal on a trade for my CG and Brake Lite. Wish I could afford the Cure and to keep my CG, but I'm a new stepdad of a 6 year old who goes to bed early, and I've gotta do the reasonable thing, financially and volume-wise. And thanks for the offer zaddn, I'm just in Massillon. Definitely up for jamming sometime if you're up for it.

This is without a doubt very true. But if we're allowed to dream a little, can you even imagine if the Ghia came equipped with the Cure's level control in the 1x10 form factor? We just think the Cure is a runaway best seller...

In having playing the Ghia with the MV, I would venture that the Ghia with a level control would be less cool than the Cure having one. American tones take attenuation better than British to my ears and the Ghia magic happens with volume more than EQ.
The Cure has a great EQ and can make up for lack of volume with adjustable Bass Mid and Treble. I find that, low volume versus high volume, I use VERY different EQ at least .... loudness really opens up the Cure but EQ can adequately make up for some perception of loss. To me the GHIA shines with the volume up....and the speaker moving. Like an old Tweed or Marshall the Ghia needs volume for me to enjoy it most.

...i've had 6 Ghias...its the amp i always return to after moving to yet another amp...(mostly Z's Fenders and Winfields)...i had one when i preordered my Cure.....the Cure is gonna stay and i probably won't get another Ghia....the versatility of the Cure cannot be overstated....thats the big deal for me...
