So, some of you know that my youngest son has taken up guitar. My oldest son (soon to be 20) is already an established player and doing very well leading worship at a small local church.
Back to my youngest . . . . .
He likes to play guitar in his room and I have a cheap Dean Markley amp that he uses to make noise in his room with. For what it is and what he needs it works okay.
Now back to the Therapy . . . .
He loves MY Therapy with my Sparrow Les Paul, I run it through a pair a V30's and it really sounds great, has some nice thump and is overall excellent sounding. Really excellent sounding. He is into 90's sounding punk/alternative like Rise Against, Sum 41 and A Day to Remember. The Therapy with the Sparrow (although not nearly as high gain as the bands listed) really does a nice job of getting a good sound for this style.
Here is the best part (someone just posted a thread about your favorite settings), Joshua doesn't pay much attention to knobs and their location. He just turns them until he finds a sound he likes, doesn't matter what it is. I have come into the amp room (aka, Family room) and found my Therapy with all three tone knobs dimed, bass/treble dime with no mids, and just about everything in between. Its pretty cool that he doesn't have any pre conceived notions about where the knobs should be.
He is much more an artist than I am. He is more interested in the music than is how the music is made. He wants a tone that works for the music in his head, he doesn't start with a sound he wants and then tries to make music to fit. Its interesting to watch and to listen too.
So, long story short . . . . be willing to make radical changes in the controls on your amp, you may find something amazing!!
God bless, Todd
