Have a chance to gig with a hard rock band (for fun). Need to cover some VH and heavier stuff (Scopions, Warrant and two Brootlz songs) Not digging my Riot for this application. Anybody tried a Friedman BE-OD or the MXR 5150 in a band setting with their Maz or have any other recommendations? Thanks!

Wampler Pinnacle might be worth a look.

Some of the guys here have praised the MojoMojo by tc electronic, and they are right,it's a great pedal, nice thick od,i found Vanhalen 1 and 2 tone easy to achieve with it when stacked on a dirtyish amp,They are only 50 bucks new too!

Wampler Pinnacle might be worth a look. +1 for the Wampler Pinnacle - what a lush, articulate, and warm drive - completely takes a les paul into a Maz18 into Scorps, VH, Ratt, and Dokken territory. Covering a set list that went from acoustic sounds into edge of breaking up country grit, to black crowes, Zep, and VH - and the pinnacle did all of the heavier stuff perfectly. Between that, and an OCD, I could cover the whole list.

My Barber Gain Changer has been THE sound for me with all my Z amps. I have several boxes full of drive pedals and it's been #1 for about a year now. Killer sounds and very, very versatile. Love it with the Maz series. But with the Z-Lux it's out of this world.

I have the MojoMojo previously mentioned and the BE-OD.
The MojoMojo is the best OD for $50 ever. Like Walt said, very heavy in front of an already breaking up amp.
The BE-OD is pricier, 200 bucks-ish. It has way more gain than the MojoMojo. In fact I run the gain at about 20% but I'm not really going EVH. It is a pretty flexible pedal. I don't think of it as a MIAB pedal though even though I think that's what it's supposed to be. I'm failing to come up with words as to why exactly. I guess because a true Marshall amp distortion, in my experience has a lot of top end and cuts like a knife. Of course there has been so many Marshall amp models...
Somebody mentioned the Wampler Pinnacle. I had one of those. I couldn't bond with it. It seemed to have an issue pairing with my amp but it pretty much nails the definitive EVH brown sound.
Right now I have the Wampler Catapulp and the JHS @ on my board. The Catapulp is airier than the @ if that makes any sense. The @ is a hard and fast MIAB. The Catapulp can get very gainy but I roll it back some for more Steely Danish kind of solo stuff and use the @ for anything harder. I tend to cycle through pedals though so who knows what I'll be using next week.
Rik mentioned the OCD. I have one of those as well. Definitely one of the all time great OD's. It will get pretty distorted but it's a tad on the bright side and for me isn't necessarily the perfect pedal for heavier stuff. I do like it for a lot of classic rock.

I have a Wampler Pinnacle and the BE-OD. Personally I prefer the Friedman, in my Maz the Pinnacle sounded a little fuzzy. The articulation just wasn't there for me. Then again I haven't tried it since I changed my power tubes. I've notice huge overall clarity since just doing that. Either way the Friedman cuts through and sounds amazing!

How about the Jetter Gold Standard for $145 bucks to your door? Killer pedal I bought from a member. It is sort of redundant and a little too much gain for my assortment.

Friedman BE-OD. I don't own one but I played through a friend's. I like it better than the OCD I used to have. What guitar? You absolutely need humbuckers.

Stacking a couple of drive pedals would be worth a shot. It l want a heavy drive tone l stack another pedal into my green rhino which is a thick sounding pedal anyway.

Anybody tried a Friedman BE-OD or the MXR 5150 in a band setting with their Maz or have any other recommendations? Thanks! JHS Angry Charlie. For real...it's designed to do exactly what you are looking for. Gives you that hot rodded Marshall JCM 800 sound. I originally owned a Wampler Pinnacle, but I didn't feel it really sounded like an amp. Looked into the Wampler Plextortion, but the guys at Atlanta Discount Music let me try the JHS Angry Charlie. 5 minutes later, I handed over the cash and took the pedal home. Turn down the gain, you get a nice bluesbreaker/plexus type tone for classic rock. Turn the gain up, and it's that classic VH brown sound/80's rock tone. It's very tweakable, and the best pedal I own (and I've got a bunch). I would choose itnover the BE-OD or the MXR 5150 because those pedals aren't nearly as versatile as the Angry Charlie. With the AC, you won't be stuck with a pedal that is a one trick pony. Only thing better would be a JHS Sweet Tea.

My favorite dirt pedal to date. Killer marshal tones!

Speaking of the MF sales and OD pedals,I almost pulled the trigger on the MojoMojo again(originally bought for 110,sold it for 80,wish I didn't)But instead bought it's brother the Dark Matter, which I thought was a metal pedal, but according to reviews is a Marshall in a box,and slightly heavier than the Mojo. Also upgraded my cheap snare drum,to a slightly less cheap snare drum.
