Hi It's my name is Mark and it's been 5 and a half years Since my last power tube change. I had no idea. Put some new 6n14n's in last night. Great sound indeed. I only got a few mins to just fire up the amp, make sure they work and then shut it down again. I was chatting with Britinvasion about it and he reminded me of the masking tape date reminder tip. I said that I would do that this time...that got me thinking because I recall making a post about the EL844's that were in the amp...searching that post revealed Oct of 2011!!! UGH!!! I am sure it will be like taking a new amp out to the next gig...I am changing preamp tubes too.

Cripes!! 5-1/2 year old power tubes. The bald tires of amplification.

Mark, I'm curious, about how much do you play your amp in hours per week?

Mark, I'm curious, about how much do you play your amp in hours per week? We usually get out for a couple gigs a month and some practices. 2-6 hours a week most likely.

All new tubes installed but there's still some kind of an annoying rattle inside the amp...not sure how to describe it...almost sounds like a tube rattle but it's not. Checked all tubes, connections, the tube guards, checked chassis bolts, speaker bolts...everything is tight. It's almost a metallic type rattle...hard to describe. Happens only on low notes and is not coming through the speaker.

Power amp or rectifier tube retainer? I've even had a NOS rectifier tube make some noise - just a thought!
