The beast arrived yesterday. Since it's supposed to be an american voiced amp I tried it with a Jensen C10R, not my favoirute speaker for Fender amps but still decent. I'll try it with a G10 Gold in the next days as well. The Fender cleans were spot-on imho and once the amp is pushed hard on the volume it's a completely different beast, which is the reason why I got it in the first place. I'm not a big fan of the sound of cranked Fenders, expecially black face models. Too farty/bassy and not very tight for my taste. You know better than me how this amp sounds when pushed into overdrive so there's nothing I can tell you except that it sounds great. TONS of combinations using the EQ controls, it was completely new to me. Never had an amp like that for sure.
Let's focus on cleans: I found great tones with volume on 12 o'clock and both bass and treble on 9 o'clock. It's loud, it's pristine clean and very balanced. I know that the EQ controls work until 12 o'clock and then start to add gain and I had the impression that 9 o'clock is the "flat" position (think 5-5 on a Fender) while 12 o'clock is something like 8/10. Is it correct?
Anyway, I still need to experiment a lot with the amp, especially with dirt tones. I got some great verge of breakup tones with volume on 2 o'clock, treble and bass around 10/11 o'clock. It seems to me that past 12 o'clock those EQ knobs allow the player to choose HOW the amp breakup. More bass result in a big fat and darker distortion, while more highs result in a more bright and tight distortion.

Set all knobs at 3 o'clock. Stand back and grin because the sound is incredible! The famed 3,3,3 I did it yesterday, after reading your posts. Great tone, a little bit too bassy and fizzy for me. I preferred the 2-2-2 setting or 2-11-11. I should try again different settings, this amp is a chameleon.

The tone controls will great affect the amount of gain you get out of the amp too. ahhh, thinking about the Z28's again is giving me GAS!

You can use a solid-state rectifier if you want less SAG. It truly is a touch response amp.

This amp is unbelievable, let me tell you. Different EQ settings can drastically change the tone without affecting the overall volume that much. I found the treble knob more sensitive to tonal changes and it adds gain/grit in a more manageable way too while the bass knob seems more subtle, it reminds me of the tone knob of my Carmen Ghia, which I love. Seems very useful for balancing things: for example, if I push the treble knob to 1/2 o'clock to add some grit I found that adding some bass helps getting a less fizzy and more balanced tone. I tried different combinations putting both knobs in the same position (1-1-, 2-2, 3-3 etc.) and you can't go wrong with any of that.
I'm still curious to hear what you think about this:
