Hi there, new to the forums. I have owned 3 Zs thus far... a C.G. And 2 maz Jrs (one combo and a head plus z best cab). So I have been gassing for a z wreck pretty hard lately, figure it's time to dump my plexi because it's just not my style. My question to you guys is that I plan on ordering with the 1/2 power switch, but I have never played one so I'm looking for opinions on whether it should be hardwired for comfort or speed. I play in a couple Southern rock cover bands, and also dabble in some country and jazz. Opinions?

My question to you guys is that I plan on ordering with the 1/2 power switch, but I have never played one so I'm looking for opinions on whether it should be hardwired for comfort or speed. I play in a couple Southern rock cover bands, and also dabble in some country and jazz. Opinions? I think Frankie said that the 1/2 power mod for existing Wrecks could be either Comfort or Speed and that new models will be wired for Speed. I just got my Wreck about a month ago. I like Speed and Comfort both and when I switch from one to the other, I always love the new one. It is hard to say at this point, because I have not gigged with it, but I think the Speed / Comfort option is something I would rather have than the 1/2 power switch. If you are going to run the Wreck with the volume before noon, AND you want to have more clean headroom available I think the 1/2 power switch would not work as well as a Brake lite or other attenuator. But if you are going to crank the volume past 2 o'clock, to get that seriously cool overdrive, then 1/2 power could be great. I think the Wreck from about 10-1 o'clock has a similar volume level, it just gets dirtier. There is a noticeable volume bump once you go past that point. There are a lot of far more knowledgeable current and former Wreck owners on the board here, but it isn't as active at is was. I suggest you consume every bit of information here as you can and then find a way to try out the amp.

I think for your uses you may prefer the Speed setting. As I understand it Ken Fisher's design was Comfort but Brad Paisely wanted Speed. Speed is a snappier response and certainly lends itself to a more of a country or jazz genre. Comfort has the slightest sag with that warm midrange emphasis that a lot of classic rock or jam band stylists prefer. That being said, the amp on both settings exhibits excellent individual note distinction when playing cords. Which ever setting you pick you will never miss the other without the ability to A-B it in real time. I'm getting the half power mod so that I can gig the amp with an Air Brake. It's a loud amp, but the design and performance is unparalleled.

So if I understand you correctly rockefeller... when you order brand new, your only option is speed? You can still order a Wreck with both Speed and Comfort - just no half power capability. If you want the half-power switch, you have to choose one or the other.

So if I understand you correctly rockefeller... when you order brand new, your only option is speed? I think I read that somewhere, but I can't seem to find the thread where Frankie said that. I could be wrong, but I think that is the case. You can message Frankie or email Dr. Z and find out the truth.

In his post about the half power mod, Frankie says the half-power switch is an option on new ZWrecks.

In his post about the half power mod, Frankie says the half-power switch is an option on new ZWrecks. Mike... I know that sometimes posts get deleted from The Forum. I could swear that Frankie said you could order a new one with the half power switch but it would be set to speed. Since I got my Wreck from a really cool person on the forum here, I've been consuming almost everything there is about the wreck. I could be wrong but I think that's what he said. I also recall that he said in that same post that most people seem to prefer the speed when they were using half power

You can choose speed or comfort as a permanent setting when he builds it, because the new switch is replacing the speed/comfort switch. Or you can purchase a pre-configured one.
