Can the Monza be set to use as an amp with clean tones, with pedals in front for drive? I've listened to the video on the Dr's website called "Monza clean tones" and the cleans sound gorgeous. With the volume and wattage being so high, it would seem that you could get cleans from the amp, the rich, thick, pristine kind, with lots of harmonic undertones, and still get some good volume. I found a great deal on a 1x10 combo and am dying to find an excuse to buy it. I use modulation, delay, and reverb, and since those would be in front of the amp's preamp, I have no desire to tap into the amps distortion, which would in turn create distorted sounding delay repeats.
Anybody?? (fingers crossed)

You can get cleans, but not Fender big bottle amp cleans. Cleans with a little bit of hair are no problem. If you put a 5751 in V1 instead of the 12AX7 you can get a little bit closer. The Monza is a fun amp. One of my favorites. Don't fear a little bit of hair. It's nice to have a little something to hide behind. At least for me.

I use my Monza head and it's still predominantly clean at ridiculous volume (for me anyway).

This is definitely one of those "it depends" questions that, ultimately, only you will be able to answer. If it's a great deal on a used Monza, I say go for it, and if it doesn't work out you can always resell it and not lose anything. Or, it might not work the way you want, but you like it so much you keep it anyway

I agree you can get a fairly loud, fairly clean tone. But when I plug into the Monza, I keep cranking the volume up. It's hard to resist, especially with the Master Volume version.

I don't see why you wouldn't with an efficient speaker. Red fang is 102.2db and 50 watts. Heard its good with the monza. Never played the combo tho. I had a red fang in my z-28 1x10 and it was LOUD.

This isn't your amp. You can get some clean tones but if you "no desire" to tap into grit on this amp, you don't really want this amp. Look for one with fender guts.
This amp was designed for drive...heavy drive.

I was playing my Monza yesterday and rotated some 12AX7As through it. An old RCA that is probably getting weak gave the best cleans I've heard from the Monza, but dobrostarr hit it on the head. It's designed to ROCK. I did get some sweet clean tone, but like I mentioned above this amp loves to be cranked. It just gets rowdy and wonderful with the volume above 12:00 (for cleans it had to be around 9:00 max), and it just gets better from there.

I agree with Marc and Dave! The Monza is a rockstar. I do like the "cleans" I can get from it. It's not a "one trick" pony. I find this amp to start to shine when you turn up the Drive and Volume. Adding a little "hair" or "grit" the Monza can go from "Summer of 69' "/ "Keep your Hands to Yourself" all the way to "Billy in a box"--to all out FUZZ! I find the amp on the clean side of things has a pushed mid freq. to my ears. It will cut through the mix in a band setting. It's not a clean "StangRay" or even a set clean Maz 18. For live: I use pedals for my drive tones so I use my Maz18 or StingRay. The Monza is a great amp...but she is a rockstar! Doc makes so many amps...chances are great he makes "Your" amp. It just may not be a Monza. One way to find out...play one! I really hope this helped. Just my 2 cent worth.
