When the new MAZ 8 came out there was a lot of interest. I haven't seen much here lately. What's up with that.

Lack of cash-If I had the money I'd buy a 2x10 combo right now.I'll get one next year,I am going to buy a Rickenbacker first.

Doc is building so many killer amps that perhaps people just forget about the awesome Maz 8. It's on my next to buy.

I play mine everyday, sometimes trice a day. BTW zpilot, I am having a blast with the Power Station and the Maz 8. I had that rig and the Therapy hooked up in stereo today during golf. That is a cool setup, the Maz 8/Power Station. I also like the PS with the Therapy, and my 6 v 6 Plexi combo, and Sherman 18.

Yeah... the improved MV and reverb circuits and the VBFS were a good part of why I went with the Maz 8. Eric Amble and Dave Baker's demo videos pretty much sealed the deal. Then the Cure came out, and kind of grabbed all the attention. It was bound to happen... Doc keeps coming out with killer amps.

But I had a Cure before I just got the 8 and it's kinda like kids. You love 'em both, but love 'em differently! I'm finding that the MV on the new Maz 8 is so good that it approximates the function of the level control on the Cure. Not exactly of course, but it's headed in that direction. It's that good.

I played both ( ) of mine today. Not at the same time. One is original from the first production run; the other is recent. They sound pretty similar, at least at the settings I was using. Similar = great, of course

Eddie, does this mean you no longer have the Cure ? I've been thinking about getting one before the price goes up. I'd be very interested in hearing your opinion of how they compare.

I've had a Maz 8 for a few years now, it's a forever amp for me at home. I love it! It does all I need and more and such a great pedal platform.

I've been using it with my new 1977 Princeton Reverb also.

Eddie, does this mean you no longer have the Cure ? I've been thinking about getting one before the price goes up. I'd be very interested in hearing your opinion of how they compare. Oh no, I don't plan on the Cure going anywhere. I love that amp. To grossly oversimplify, to me the most noticeable difference is that right off the bat the Maz 8 seems a bit brighter than the Cure. But as someone before me (doctorice maybe?) said, you're sorta comparing chime to sparkle. To me when the Maz 8 is in pentode mode it sounds a lot like a regular Maz Jr., just at a lower level. I'd sort of put the Cure somewhere between pentode and triode modes on the 8. But here's the deal: if you had to only have one or the other, you'd probably need to decide whether you preferred 6V6s or EL84s. Realistically though if you wanted to fiddle with the settings long enough you could probably get them to sound a lot alike. And don't forget how much the totally different speakers contribute to the final sound. And while I stand by my comment that the improved MV on the Maz 8 approximates the utility of the level control on the Cure, I've personally never found a feature on any amp more useful than the Cure's level control. It even surpasses the cut control on the Maz. If it's doable, a strong case can be made for having both. You could have yourself drooling in short order trying to do a Ben Franklin between these two amps. For every tit there's a tat.

Thanks for the info eddie. I guess what I'm wondering is how different is the Maz 8's el84 tone from the Cures 6V6 sound. And are they different enough to warrant having both.

Thanks for the info eddie. I guess what I'm wondering is how different is the Maz 8's el84 tone from the Cures 6V6 sound. And are they different enough to warrant having both. I have been running my Maz 8 in stereo with my Therapy. I find that I like the el 84's for Strat funk so I click on the Maz, however together with the Keely MS it sounds like layered guitars live. I do like the feel and tone of the 6v6's or 6L6's in general. Based upon the demo's and reports I would think that the Cure can be quite different than the Maz 8 with concentric tones in the clean range. It would seem to me that to have a Maz 8 and the Cure would cover all of your needs if you are into lightweight combos. I bet the Cure sounds outstanding with a nice hollowbody and some Jazzy riffs. I would think that the Cure would be a killer combo of combo's. It is a really good price for the Cure, I don't think you could go wrong. The interesting thing about the Cure is that I cannot see it's resale value dipping below $1000 for quite a while. So you could always get a at least a grand back if you needed to sell it.

I'm personally not good at quantifying close tone comparisons verbally, but many here are. I'd suggest that you check out those posts by guys much more articulate than myself in that area. There are lots of them. And don't forget Frankie's excellent videos. I definitely think a strong case can be made for having both, but as purpletele correctly points out there would never be a better time to try it given the the short supply of Cures right now.

Well.... I just used mine in the Studio for our new Single we released last week. Ric 12/ Tele rythym/ Tele main riff and lead. We were nominated for Country record of the year at the Indegineous Music Awards last week, for our record "North of Town Roads". We wanted a new single to release during the Awards/schmooze fest so we hit the Studio and banged out a fresh single. It debuted on Radio last Friday. All MAZ 8!! Now we're finishing up arrangements and starting pre-production this week for the rest of the Album.
....does that count?? Lol

My Maz 8 has been suffering from neglect-itis because I've been playing my Monza, Z-Lux, and Therapy. I've gotta plug in to my Maz 8 and give it some abuse later this afternoon...
