What's the difference between the Mazerati and the M GT? I'm loving my Ghia so much and I want something like it but with more. I want everything my Ghia gives me, but more. I want more clean headroom as well. To be honest, the Ghia is pretty dern loud so I don't know if I'll ever need more.
I saw an old 3X10 combo on Reverb, just not sure if it's legit due to my ignorance of older Z's. I knew you guys would be able to give an answer to that one.
Last thing, after what little research I've done on this amp I can't figure for the life of me why it's not in production anymore. It seems like a true gem.

The Mazerati (V1 and V2) is a clean amp. It will overdrive but you have to have the volume at 11:00 or better to get it to breakup. At that point, it is very loud.
The Mazerati GT is a dirty amp and it is gainy from early on the volume dial. The Mazerati and the Mazerati GT are totally different beasts.
If you are a pedal player, the Mazerati is a good choice. The clean tones are great and it takes OD pedals very well. If you want a "Trainwreck" type dirty amp, then the GT is what you need.
I have a Mazerati (V2) and I agree with you about it not being in production. It is a shame that it isn't produced anymore because it sounds amazing. It is so easy to set your tone and just play. I like the extra thrust it has compared to the Carmen Ghia. I am assuming the reason it isn't made anymore is because the Doc has enough 4x EL84 amps in production. You don't want to have too many similar amps. If you leave near Chicago you are welcome to come try mine out.

Thanks Bryan, that pretty much clarifies it for me. Seems to me that the Mazerati is most similar to the new gen Ghia if it starts to leave the tracks at about 11:00.

The Mazerati is pretty much like a more powerful Ghia. I believe the tone circuit is somewhat different but it works the same way. If you run out of clean headroom with a Ghia, the Mazerati is a great choice. It has a bit more low end as well, I am guessing due to the larger transformers and such. You can get a great deal on a Mazerati since no one seems to watch for them. A hidden gem for sure.

Be aware of the old 3x10 that is for sale - Doc never made a 3x10 Mazerati. Someone switched the cabs between a Super Z (3x10) and a Mazerati (2x12) and then sold them to the dealer as custom amps. I spoke with Doc on this - he never made either. The dealer is adamant that it is original - I don't think so given Doc's comments. If you look, it does not fit the cab all that well either.
If you want a Mazerati head I have one for sale - but only because I have Mazerati #001(obviously a V1) and a V2 Mazerati 1x12 combo. I also have a GT with a MV installed by Doc - it is far more manageable with the MV mod - from clean to fuzz in one amp! I love the Mazerati's!
BTW - the original Mazerati was meant to be a double strength Ghia - amazing tones and more clean headroom than the Ghia. But it is loud.

I think I'm reading this wrong...at first it appeared to me as if you are offering up an #001 for sale. Then I came to my senses and re-read the post lol. I'm definitely keeping you in mind if or when I decide. I would MUCH rather buy from a member who's name I've seen hundreds of time here. As for the 3X10 for sale, that's the thing I hate about buying online from strangers. I just never know for sure and my Z knowledge only goes so far unfortunately. Who knows though, maybe this guy has all the greatest intentions of being honest, but a little Ztalk forum research is surely in call before selling oddities and "rare" Z amps.

I would stay away from the 3x10. It has been around the block for sale a couple times. Jaguarguy (Mike) is a good fella and you can buy with confidence. If you ask nicely, maybe he will sell you Mazerati #001 ! You would have to battle about 15 guys on here tho to get it!
