...once again affirming that a Celestion Gold is my favorite speaker in just about any amp...i really like the Z-12 and if i'm using a ceramic its the one for me....but...i love the "pretty" sound of Golds and when i hit the Cure with overdrive pedals thees a smooth creamy tone that i just don't get from other speakers...the Gold is a bit quieter and not as beefy as the Z-12 but man i'm digging it....i gotta say it one more time...i love this amp....

I put a well broken in Chinese greenback last night and I think I like the Z12 better. I wish I had a gold or blue sitting around to try. How were the mods? The greenback seemed to be falling apart with my les paul in the midrange dept but it sounded very JTM45 like with a strat

...mids are dialed back in as i kinda expect with a Gold....overall balance is what i've come to expect from golds...certainly not as fat as the Z-12...

Surprised the Gold is quieter, it's a 100db speaker, and the Z-12 is 99db. I'm currently trialing a Creamback M65 in place of my Gold in my 1x12 cab, and the CB at 97db is considerably and noticeably quieter than the Gold. But I guess ears don't lie! I'm looking forward to hearing that Z-12 when I get my Cure.

The Z12 is deceptively loud. I have several 100 dB plus speakers and the Z12 is louder than them all through the same amp. I think the Z12 is probably accurately rated, while Celestion and Eminence and others have been known to inflate their dB ratings.
Plus, where the mids sit will affect perceived loudness.

...once again affirming that a Celestion Gold is my favorite speaker in just about any amp...i really like the Z-12 The Gold is/was my favorite guitar speaker....then came the AlNiCo Cream. However, I put a Weber Silverbell in my CURE and it's going nowhere anytime soon. I will try the Cream at some point though. Like you and others, theZ speaker is great and it's put up for safe keeping, but I just love that AlNiCo chime and softer attack.
