My band does a lot of 90's covers, so normally, when I acquire or test a new "M" style amp, I crank it up to see if it could handle those coked out, over the top Oasis style "M" tones. The DB4 passed the test! It makes those Greenbacks sound goooooooooood!

That sounds sweet Frank. Thick and smooth. DB 4 was built for a Tele, but it loves a LP.

Thanks, Doc! I love these "simple" amps. So many good tones to be had.

That sounds great! Glad you're liking it...that 5 way Tone selector is cool. Do notice any similarities with the /13 and DB4 regarding the 5879 preamps?

That sounds great! Glad you're liking it...that 5 way Tone selector is cool. Do notice any similarities with the /13 and DB4 regarding the 5879 preamps? My /13 is rocking 12AX7's in the pre. I have played a /13 JRT 9/15 with a hybrid front end and I really loved the pre in that amp. I liked how you could blend the 5879 pre with the 12AX7 pre, lots of tones available from chimey to chewy. The noise floor was ridiculously loud, though. The DB4 and the AMW 39 do have some similarities in tone. Both are British rocking machines. The DB4 sounds like there are EL34's in there, no question. It's robust, muscular and thumps through an Austin Speaker Works KTS70. When I play through the DB4 and the 1x12 cab, it sounds like I'm playing through a 2x12 cab. It's been so long since I've played through a 4x12, I won't make a bold statement there. The deal sealer with the DB4 is the feel. I'm not sure if I've ever played an amp that feels as good under the fingers as the DB4. The /13 is stiff and cold compared to it. The Therapy is similar in feel to the DB4, but the DB4 is is on a whole other level. Very forgiving, but also very dynamic and responsive. It's a joy to play.

The noise floor on my SJT 10/20 with the 5879 preamp V1 also had a very loud noise floor....as well the volume control started at loud and only got louder, not as much of a sweep......also it was prone to picking up radio signals. My Z amps always amazed me at how quiet they were, and they didn't pick up radio either. I really did like my /13 but the Z amps I've had just felt like they were a bit better in the internal design category and the service department for Z is a bit more developed.
Really we live in a time of many great amp builders.....Bogner, /13, Z, Bad Cat, Swart etc..... plus vintage Fender and Marshall and others.

The AMW is the same way. From about 8:00 to noon, it goes from loud to louder. Then, it just compresses and gets more gainy from there.
Fred does have a way with master volumes, though. I can play the AMW through a 2x12 cabinet around the house without causing a stink. It has as good of a master as the Monza.
