Hey guys,
It's so much fun rolling out different tubes in the Therapy! MAN DO I LOVE THIS AMP!
I have found the tube pairing I prefer with the Therapy and I'll share with you guys.
First I'd like to say that the stock tube configuration does sound great and depending on the needed application, it's great to be able to go back to that tone.
So for V1, I've tried a JJ 5751, liked it but not currently in the amp. I also tried different 12AX7 I had, for various flavors, and ended with a nice Philips 7025. For V2, I also tried a couple of tubes and ended up with a Sovtek LPS. For power tubes, I tried different 6L6 I had, some EL34, and currently have some JJ 6V6. Now my latest change is the rectifier. I tried a 5U4, but currently have a nice RCA 5y3, and I really like it.
So there you have it. 6V6's, 5Y3, and NOS 12AX7 in V1. All of this paired with a V30 in a good cab, I'm not that great of a player but man.. I never sounded that good!!

Thanks for your update... I tried out some JJ 6v6 tubes at a gig last night and really liked the sound. I may have to try out a different rectifier as well.

Glad you're liking it. The options are staggering. Agreed, Again I want to say that the amp in it's ''normal'' configuration of 6L6 power tubes and 5AR4 rectifier sounds great and I'm going to use it like that sometimes. But for some applications and the one I'm using right now I prefer the 6V6's and 5Y3 rectifier the most. Again, we said it so many times, but man, what a great amp!

They are Mullard 6CA7 (same as EL34 but were american as opposed to EL34 that were from Europe) I did not give them a fair chance but to my ears they didn't sound as good as the 6L6 the amp came with. But to be fair, they sounded heavenly in my Marshall 2203...

I have tried JJ 6L6 and 6V6's,and I like them better than the EL's.6V6's are more tweedy and compress and distort earlier.

I wanted to experiment, but experiments are expensive : (

Yet, to my ear, the JJ tubes I've heard are a bit gnarly and brash compared to some other brands that sound more smooth.

Think Black Keys "Sister" (5Y3) vs Rolling Stones "Brown Sugar" (5AR4).

That is an astute comparison. I listened to Sister and there is definitely a SAG in response albeit very subtle. Brown Sugar is definitely much more punchy.
