Got the Wreck last week and had a chance to really open her up today with a Creamback and a Z12. It sounds great with both of them, but I like the Z12 better. I can't imagine the amp sounding better, but it is killing me to think how the Wreck, my Teles and a Gold would sound. Could it get any better? I know some of you guys have tried the amp with loads of different speaker options, and many of you have stated here that you keep coming back to the Gold. That isn't helping!
At this point, I seem to like the volume around 10-11 o'clock, which allows me to get a wide range of groovy tones from flat out clean to a great country tone with some grit on it with just a turn of the volume knob. It was easy to get Paisley tones of course but what surprised me was it was also easy to dial in Pete Anderson's Dwight tones. I wasn't expecting that. I haven't decided how I am going to get my rock tones. I know the amp can do it all, but I am not sure the differences in volume will be manageable. I won't really know this until I gig with her the first time. But, the Greer Lightspeed sounds great with it, so either way I am sure I will find someway to work with it.
I've tried both Speed and Comfort and like them both. I think I gravitate a little more to the Speed side, but it is too early to tell.
It has been a LONG time since I have played a non-master volume amp. Literally 30 years. The difference in the sensitivity is truly amazing. I played this amp for hours today, with just my AquaPuss or Delay pedal and sometimes a compressor. Jamming along with a bunch of different backing track styles, I could get every lead tone I needed. Either by opening my guitar volume all the way, or rolling it back, or changing my picking dynamics. The clean tone with some hair on it is freaking addicting.
I did have the amp hooked up to my new Brake Lite SA. I started on 4, clicked it down to 3 then 2. Two is basically where it stayed, and at that point I began to think "This amp is not too loud." I can gig it this way I had it no problem. I think.....
