I haven't been on here in a while ... got my Maz and was a happy camper. Long story short, had to seel the Maz a while back. I need another amp. Started playing with a new band and need more amp than I have. I've got a nice boutique 5E3 clone that sounds awesome, but it's not enough amp. Thinking about the Therapy. I did like my Maz, BUT, I really had to get it loud to find that dirty sound I like. I could barely get that master going. I did use the brake lite and it worked good, but I'm looking for a different sound. More mids, more sag?, more beefy ... dirtier without pedals without blowing the roof off. My Valvetrain 5E3 does that sound ... but to get loud enough its too dirty. I need a gigging amp to get over the drums and bass. I play rhythm so I don't need that cutting high end ... just a beefy, kinda dirty, rhythm sound. The Maz really cut ...I need to be in the mix tone-wise. Make sense? Is this the amp for me? Single coils, P90's ... what do you think? Do I need Therapy?

I think the Therapy is a fantastic amp.
It will deliver what you are describing. Mine keeps getting better!

Single coils, P90's ... what do you think? Do I need Therapy? We have things in common here. I went from Maz Jr. R to Therapy. I completely understand what you mean when you mention barely being able to crank that master. Don't get me wrong, the Maz is a wonderful amp and I do look forward to owning the Maz 8. Here's my take...for me I wanted to get a great tone in the bedroom that I was satisfied with and the duplicate that sound when I got with a band by simply turning the master up. I could not do that with my Maz. Now the Therapy, it does exactly that for me. This saves me a ton of time not having to turn knobs and tweek tone when I should be concentrating on song arrangements with a band. Yes, I may reach down and cut the mids back for two or three songs, but for the most part I'm already there when I plug in. Everything you described is everything the Therapy will do + more. Do not hop into this amp without researching speakers. Speakers will make it or break it for ya. I know it's another thread, but I settled with the Ceeamback 65. Works perfect for me and from your narrative it sounds like we share some tonal preferences. Btw...I'll never part with my Therapy and I knew it from the first 5 minutes with my speaker choice. Good luck!

The Maz Series is great, I've owned an 18 and a 38. But for me, the Therapy is the crown jewel of the Z lineup. Big, bold, rich tones and very controllable. The fact that you can tube swap between 6V6, 6L6, KT77 and EL34's is the icing on the cake.

Now that's what I'm talking about! Sweet amp! Just what the doctor ordered, or, just what the patient needed! The master volume is impressive. The reveiws don't lie. I was thinking it was going to be harder to get the amp distorted, but it goes there with ease. Think I'll be selling a brake lite! It's a perfect rhythm guitar amp. Way more usable volume compares to the Maz. This amp has the mojo I needed. Well, back to playing, right on!!

In the past (before Dr. Z) I turned my mids either off or barely on. I think it was because of the amps I was using and the way the mids made things a tad muddy. With the Therapy the mid control is my way of cutting through the band without adding volume and being told to turn down. IMO it also ads sparkle. What a wonderful amp!

You may keep the Brake Lite....with the Master up the Therapy has a bigger sound but it is loud....the Brake alive can get you that but shave a few DB's off with just one click. It's easy to keep in the cab and use if needed.
The Therapy has many voices....I liked mine with lots of Bass, no Treble and Mids to taste. Then maybe a tiny bit of Treble. Speakers really will be the final flavoring with this amp as Shane said. It does sound great with V30 style speakers like Dr Z recommends though. WGS if your not a Celestion fan.

Agree about the Brake Lite. I find that the master volume on the Therapy works great BUT the amp sounds so fantastic when the power tubes get cookin, with the MV above 1:00 (or wide open) that I use the Brake LIte sometimes to keep a handle on doctor decibel.

First practice in a band setting. Thumbs up for sure! Very impressive. Great rhythm tone, just what I wanted. Last couple of songs are ripping, turned that mid knob to 3:00 and definitely get that extra push. Nice! I'm going to have to read up on hooking up the brake lite in a cab. Why not?

I originally got into a Therapy to have extra push in a loud rock band. It had more than enough....and after awhile I felt a bit guilty sounding so awesome next to my friends Bogner.....just wasn't fair. The Z just pronounces notes with more clarity. Either way it won't collapse as the songs intensity builds.

First gig ... Stage volume perfect. Tone awesome. Couldn't be happier. Crank the mids on the last couple songs. Oh yeah!!! Best amp I've ever had or played!!!!!!
