Here's a comparison between these two amps in the 1x12 Studio Cab. Performed with a Strat.

Thank you for that. I preferred the MAZ 8 for everything except the final clips where the amps were overdriven. The MAZ 8 sounds compressed and 'boxy' to me in that clip. I think mine sounds better than that overdriven but I have a std cab with a C-Gold in it.

Thank you for that. I preferred the MAZ 8 for everything except the final clips where the amps were overdriven. The MAZ 8 sounds compressed and 'boxy' to me in that clip. I think mine sounds better than that overdriven but I have a std cab with a C-Gold in it. To be honest, it sounded better in the room and some of this has to do with the choice of mic. In a perfect world, I prefer the 609 for solo guitar recordings. But in a mix I believe the Maz with the 57 would sit very well. The H30 is a hard speaker to record with a single mic because it has a couple of sweet spots and a very wide soundstage from low to high. We tried to keep things equal and choose a vey common mic everyone has heard and a speaker choice that most Maz 8's ship to stores with. I enjoy the gold and think it would be great with a Maz 8 as well. I actually like the H30 too, just a hard one to properly record. And for the record, the Maz 8 does compress at that volume. It is a single ended and the tube gets driven hard. In fact, even on the clips when it is clean and I vary the strength of my attack, you can hear it compress and react. I think that's one of its strong suits, but of course not for every player.

Very nice demo, informative. Ultimately I think I'd be happy with either, elated with both.

Frankie, thanks for putting in the time for these demos. They are great, and both amps sound great too!
