Here are some clips with a Fender Strat. We will be demoing other guitars with this set up. Both amps really liked the Strat a lot.

Great demo! Just curious as to why the same speaker wasn't used for both amps?
Having been using a Z12 since it pretty much came out, I can definitely hear the characteristics of that speaker coming through in this demo. I think if you used the same speaker for both, these amps would be a lot closer than people imagine.

You are correct using the Z 12 did make the amps sound more similar. But that isn't the point. The point is to compare two stock models, and compare and contrast.

Z I didn't want to be the first one to say this, given that my ears don't always pick up all the fine nuances of amp tones. Having said that, I did think they sounded surprisingly similar too. That's the first thing that struck me, other than they both sounded terrific. And given that I was considering a Maz 8 Studio also when I got the Cure, the stock factory configuration comparison helped me to reinforce my decision. The additional wattage of the Cure combined with the level control just does it for me.

Thanks for this, it's really useful. I've ordered the Cure, but was still wondering about the Maz 8, as I wasn't able to try one. Both sound very nice; if anything the Maz has a bit more chime, but given the higher wattage and that level control I think I made the right choice. Presumably the Cure has noticeably more headroom; I noticed that in the Matt's Music demos the cleans of the Cure are demonstrated very nicely, whereas the Maz 8 is mainly shown with more breakup.

The Cure, indeed, has considerably more headroom. I tend to like chimey Vox-like clean tones as well, but I have admit, the Cure has converted me.
