Hey Guys,
Was just curious, was there talk of a half power Zwreck? Was talking to a buddy yesterday and he said that he thought he read that on one of the forums. I didn't see anything and was curious. I'd buy it tomorrow! Love my Wreck just not playing it enough. I find the sweet spot (for me) is 11:00 on the volume. Crunchy clean but too loud for any place that I play. I've even unhooked the blue and run it a 8 ohms.

I think there may have been some general discussion (among forumites) in the past, but the general consensus is that a ZWreck without 4 el84s would have the same feel.
I don't think there any official discussion from the Z Shop considering it. I think it was just a bunch of '"what if" among the members.

It will have a top mounted 1/2 power switch , look for it early 2017. The Z Wreck combo sounds excellent, it has the lite weight resonant cab, great grab and go amp and the 1/2 power will give it more versatility." From Dr.Z on the gear page. We have been working on that, as well as many other new products and updates. We did run into a problem when installing the switch on the front panel, induced noise and hum from the long run of the half power wiring.
It works great when we remove the Comfort/Speed switch, wire the amp for either higher plate voltage ( Speed ) or lower plate voltage ( Comfort ), depending on customers need. Then installing the Half Power switch in it's place with MUCH shorter wire runs. Now the Half Power wiring is the same as say the Z Lux, trouble free and no additional artifacts due to wire layout.
I'm still not ready to release this change , it needs more testing in my mind. But it will be a welcome revision to the Z Wreck, as far as usability is concerned.
And when done this way it can be offered as a factory upgrade.
I welcome your comments.

PS I'd gladly choose between comfort and speed

I would love to get my Z Wreck head fitted with this half power switch. I will be waiting patiently for all of the bugs to be worked out. It will make a great amp even more useable.

I welcome your comments.
Z Can you just have the 1 Half/Full power switch (i.e, no Speed/Comfort switch), but make it run @ Comfort in Half-power mode, then Speed in Full-power mode? You know, since you did say "I welcome your comments" and all... just thought I'd comment!

We will test and see which way we like best for new amp build, but we can do either on request for a factory upgrade.

Any way a post phase inverter master volume can be added instead? That may eliminate the decision to hard wire between speed and comfort.

Cool idea for an update to the Wreck. I already have a half-power switch: it's called the Air Brake

Does that mean the half power mod is available now?

Does that mean the half power mod is available now? I don't think so - as Doc said still working out a couple minor issues. Doc said "I'm still not ready to release this change , it needs more testing in my mind."

Doc said "I'm still not ready to release this change , it needs more testing in my mind." Let him answer. It's clear it's not ready for production on new amps. It's not clear that the mod is ready for already produced amps.

Is the problem a lack of real estate on the back panel for 2 switches? Why not install a 3-position impedance selector, install the 1/2 power switch in the existing speed/comfort location (keeping a short wire length) and move the speed/comfort switch to one of the freed up impedance inputs? ...or is there something big I'm missing

Thanks for the info Doc! Either I'll mod my existing head or take the plunge and add a combo to the mix.

It shows the Full-Half power switch on the back of the chassis in the bottom pic on the linked site. But no Speed or comfort switch. Quite the mystery...

OK the cat is out of the bag. Yes Ron visited the shop when he was in the states for the NAMM show. He heard Don's personal Z Wreck head with the Half Power switch and ordered a few on the spot. Well they need to be field tested , so why not.
I will get together with Don and see when we will make this mod available. I will probably do the same as the Remedy MV upgrade, take reservations and have then sent in on a timely manner, so we don't get over loaded and can still do our daily business.
You will be able to select between Comfort & Speed hard wired in, as the Half power replaces the C&S select NO PERSONAL REQUESTS !!! If you don't want to lose the C&F switch then don't call for the upgrade.
The mod will be part of the June product upgrade as standard, I'll see which selection Speed or Comfort is most popular.
You Happy
Z

OK the cat is out of the bag. Z Well, I stand corrected! What caught my eye was that the ad for the amp says that it has half power AND the C/S options AND Doc's own words. It looks like that option will be gone with the 1/2 power option. For you guys who own the amp now, which is a better option? I just bought the Z-Wreck head and I don't think I want one with a 1/2 power switch instead of the C/S.

I can sit tight for now. It's hard to imagine this amp could be improved upon... Maybe a Half/Full power Z-Wreck video will appear soon. Thanks for setting it straight, Doc!
