...is yet another "magic" knob that the Doc has somehow created....i've always considered the tone knob on a Ghia as magic....now this level knob on the Cure.....yes it works as intended by lowering the overall volume while keeping your tone intact which is really nice.... but i'm finding that the way it works interactively with the volume and master to be maybe the amps most impressive feature...
.....for example...you can set the master and level wide open and control the amp with just the volume...with this setting you get an almost more blackface than blackface type tone...clear and muscular...as you move the level down and the volume up...maintaining the same overall volume the clean tones get earthier and less sharp....and it does it incrementally so you can dial in just the type of clean tone you want...its magic i tell ya....

I've yet to gig with mine but playing in my basement at night with full stage overdrive at whisper quiet volumes makes this amp perfect for me. This could possibly be the best at home/stage amp without sacrificing anything.

I agree the level control is awesome. To get those blackface tones I set the volume at 9 Treble at 130 Mids off Bass at 2 master Volume wide open And level wherever Depending on the room

Spent the last 4 nights out with a Cure behind me. 4 different churches, 4 different volume requirements! I always use an amp shield, to be kind to those in the front row. One of these churches our volume was probably the lowest we have ever used, and with the level control it was perfect! Can't give these amps enough praise, with my Tele, Strat, or PRS I can get my perfect tone and volume! This amp is truly the Cure to my ailment!

This is great info... I put down a deposit on a Cure last week, waiting for it to be in stock. I'm going crazy.

That level control is the best I've ever heard. Doc has set a new benchmark for amp level controls,or attenuation, or whatever it is! Doesn't matter...simply works

Do we know if the Level control is Power Scaling or a new circuit design by Dr.Z?

Do we know if the Level control is Power Scaling or a new circuit design by Dr.Z? I think he did say it was NOT power scaling and was a new way of doing things.....maybe I can find the thread. Welcome aboard the ZTALK forum hope you enjoy it. Lots of great folks here. Edit:..........AHHHH here is the original thread where Frankie and Dr Z chime in on the Level control link

Isn't the volume, master, level similar to what Mesa Boogie has on some of their amps?

There are so many appealing things about the Cure. Me want but I've to scrape up some cash. What I need is the "Stealth Cure" that magically appears in the basement without the wife seeing it. I'll just say "Oh, I had this for quite a while."

Isn't the volume, master, level similar to what Mesa Boogie has on some of their amps? Conceptually, I think that's true. I don't know if the electronic design that makes it happen is related.

Thanks for the link to the earlier thread. I'm even more excited about this amp now. Having dedicated controls for pre-amp gain, power amp gain and the overall volume sounds brilliant. I don't know of another amp that does this, though I could be wrong. At least it's not very common. Yet.

The level control makes playing at home a real joy....of course when it's up louder the amp will be much more lively, but even at lower volumes the Cure has good sustain in the notes ....a very sweet feeling that carries over whether loud or quieter. It's been good for my ears.
