I was messing around with the Cure today and ended up putting a tung-Sol pre amp tube In V1. The original JJ that was in there was hotter and more powerful but I ended up keeping the Tung -Sol in. I liked the way the amp warmed up with the Tung-sol. Just wondering If anyone else has tried any other tubes and there results. The jj sounded great as it is I am just experimenting. I always liked the Tung sol in V1. I have used that tube in many of my other amps that I had in the past as well.

Hey, I picked mine up last week and have tried a blackburn mullard, grey plate RCA 7025 and a black plate RCA from the 50's. Ultimately I went back to the JJ's because I felt like the preamp sounded unrefined compared to stock. To me that indicates that the preamp is really designed well for todays tubes and you're fine with them vs nos or in my case old pulls.
I did also try a 50's RCA 5Y3 rectofier and it kind of flattened out the amp in a bad way. I felt like it lost a lot of character and did not really decrease volume much which was my goal. Not worth the tonal sacrifice though. I would like to dig up a 50's or 60's GZ34 to try though. they seem to make a bigger difference in feel than current 5AR4's to me.

Interesting thanks for posting. I agree the JJ sounds awesome. I will probably go back to it eventually. It had more sizzle. The tung sol Is a little warmer and I play strats so I like how it fattens up my single coils.
