I've been seriously considering buying a Z-Lux, but the odd reverb sound in this demo has me hesitating. He's got a nice reverb sound going on when he's playing, but when he stops playing after certain passages, there's a big "splash or wash" of reverb. Can any of you Z-Lux owners explain what's going on, please?

I think you are hearing the tremolo along with the reverb at the end of the clip. I've never heard anyone with any issues with the Z-Lux - certainly none with mine. I'm sure someone else will chime in here.

Sounds to me like they are bringing up his lavalier mic. The one that they use for his speaking voice as opposed to the Royer 121 that is on the amp.

That's caused by the release from the compression of the recording gear he is using. Notice he is talking through a room mic, probably overhead. We can't see it but he probably has another mic in front of the amp. When he starts playing the room mic gets compressed. Then when he stops it gets released and you mainly are hearing it again. That's not an accurate representation of how the Z-Lux sounds. It's reverb can sound really "springy" if you turn it up enough but it doesn't act like that. There are other demos out there that are much better. Try the one on the Dr Z website. Edit: I missed that he is using a Royer 121 on the amp.

A point the reviewer makes which is accurate is that the reverb is, or at least seems, more prominent as the amp's volume is increased. Easily controlled with the reverb knob.
I think it's a pretty decent review of the amp overall, despite the sonic artifact of the recording approach.

Yes I agree its probably in the recording. I am not much of a reverb guy though I use the reverb on my Z-lux sparingly. 11 o'clock is where I keep mine most the time. Its a subtle reverb and I do like it. I always use it.

My Z-Lux doesn't do that either. I keep my reverb about where he has his.

It's not the amp, it's how they edited the video.

Thanks everyone for all of your help explaining that. Now that I know it's no fault of the amp, I pulled the trigger today and bought one from Eddie's Guitars.
