I've had the combo for almost 2 years now and bought it brand new. I run the thing usually around noon or higher on the volume with easily over 500 hours of play time. Has anyone else noticed an increase in brightness/harshness or even some high end fizz on their z wreck combo under similar playing conditions?
Ive been having a hell of a time taming the brightness on this thing for a couple of months now. I was playing my 335 today and tried a lot of settings for around 3 hours to try and figure this out. I had the treble completely OFF and it was still piercing my ears with the cut at around 10-11 and bass about the same.
A friend of mine suggested that amps under heavy use like this might have that happen when the power tubes are starting to lose some life and I just wanted some opinions from you all!
Thanks!

This recently happened with my Therapy. It just needed new tubes. The old ones were still good...nothing less than 80% BUT after a good year of regular enthusiastic playing they had just lost there sweetness.
It was especially harsh as the amps gain came into play and the louder the volume the more noticeable it was.

I just noticed this on my Z-Wreck combo today. It was apparent on the last gig but I thought it was the room. Mine is a 2014 but has limited play time.(maybe 60-70 hrs.) I'm surprised these tubes are giving it up so quick. Could this be another issue?

It's always good to have extra tubes on hand. It helps to diagnose simple tube-caused problems and use it to eliminate simple issues. I usually start at the guitar side, changing guitar, guitar knob adjusting, changing guitar cable, pots on the amp, speaker cabs, tubes, speaker cables.
I start with the guitar thing now, since I've gone through everything before and found something awry with an input device (guitar or cable) late in the process a few times. This happened once with another amp I loved right before a gig. As I recall, I traded several emails with Andy Marshall and Ed Degenaro and eventually had to let them know that I had a guitar problem.
Tubes don't go out on me very often, but, yes, just one of them even in the power section can make a difference. EL84s in a ZW probably work a little harder than other tubes in other amps. Next, it could be pre tubes or possibly PI. Usually, a recto tube would be more digital in its failure mode, but possible.

Going to order a new quad from Perry today. Need the spares anyway. We'll see what happens.
