Tonight's gig was a 6 hr stretch, and my poor 8 starting cutting/fading out. every now and again, she'd be sounding glorious then would randomly drop out completely, comming back in a few seconds. It would happen at least twice, then seem ok for a while, then outta nowhere would fade out again. Switched out cables, pedalboard, guitars, still had the problem. Any ideas?? Thanks

Power tube. It's about a 80% chance that is your problem from your description. Always carry a spare for every tube type in your amp. Just for my own reference since I now own a MAZ 8, how many hours do you think you have on that tube? As a rule of thumb I figure out what the failure time of a tube seems to be in a particular amp and them I will replace them at 3/4 of that time. I'll probably replace the output tube in my MAZ 8 even sooner because there is only one.

Yeah, Zpilot has it right. There is a high likelihood it is a tube. If it doesn't turn out to be the power tubes, start checking preamp tubes. Clean your 1/4" sockets and make sure reverb tank cords are snugly secured as well.

With regular use that sounds about right.

Now, tube issues notwithstanding.... The Les Paul sounded AMAZING with the 8 last night. Absolutely one of the best tones I've ever gotten. That amplifier is simply astonishing.

Cool. The reason I ask is, mine came with the 6p14p output tube stock. I've been playing it about 2 to 3 hours a day since I got it in mid august, sometimes more. The 6p14p seems to be holding up great. Besides sounding great, they're supposed to be pretty durable. If the output tube is the culprit, I highly recommend replacing it with one from Perry R. From what I've read, some of the 6p14p's offered by other suppliers are NOT the same as Perry's.

Yep,sure did. The only EL84 I had lying around was a GTEL84s. While it solved the problem,it also took a lot of sweetness and Mids out of the Amp. It'll do until payday.

Perry's tubes restored my love of my Maz18. I was starting to put it off to the side and considering trading it in on a different Z. But his tubes made a dramatic difference.
