6V6's vs KT77's. So far, I have to say, I'm really enjoying the KT77's. The nice, glassy top end of a 6L6, but the smooth mid range and overdrive of an EL34.

Nice....Dr Z said he liked the KT 77 best too....besides the 6L6 of course. I like the 6V6 when you crank the volume and bass...but keep the mids and Treble off or slightly on. Killer slide sound....great squishy indie rock grind....

Thanks for the post - any idea if specific brand(s) of kt77's are best ... or last longer than others?
Edit: After some online reading, I'm guessing that JJ's are the kt77's I'd want. Is it fair to say that these take the sound of the amp more toward the Marshall camp, but still with a bit of Fender? I realize this is all very subjective, but let me know what your take is on this. Thanks.

The Tubestore only had the JJ's or Gold Lions, and well, I wasn't paying $50 a tube for the Gold Lion's.
I can't venture a guess as to tube life, but I will say the Therapy is pretty kind on tubes. The JJ 6L6's that came with it lasted almost a year, then the drop off in tone was pretty significant. Sounded like someone threw a blanket over the amp. And I played those tubes hard...
My ears perceive the KT77's to be louder than the 6L6's, but I have no data to back that up. It could be the extra mid range content in the KT's playing tricks. The glassy top end is still there with maybe a slight roll off, and the tight, punchy bass is still there as well. I think the amp still retains its American character.
I'm on the fence about the 6V6's. I'll give them a proper field test tonight.

Thanks for the descriptions! How does the headroom on the KT's compare with the 6L6's?

For those of you scoring at home, my preference is now as follows: KT77>6L6>6V6>EL34 This is in no way a measure of loudness or headroom. The KT77's just have everything I like about EL34 and 6L6 tubes rolled into one.

A little update regarding the 6V6's.
I think the 6V6's may have surpassed the 6L6's as my second favorite tube for this amp. Really creamy, spongy, and just effortless to play. The Therapy is pretty forgiving as it is, the 6V6's make it more so.
I believe the TAD 6V6's put out 12-14 watts, so it does bring the volume down quite a bit. I played both the Maz 18 and Therapy last night at gig volume through the same speaker (GASC64) and I can confirm, the Maz 18 is louder than the Therapy with 6V6's. MUCH LOUDER. I can actually play the Therapy around the house with the Brake Lite on 3 or 4, the volume around noon, and the master wide open without ticking off my new neighbors. Couldn't do that with the 6L6's or KT77's.
