So what is the actual wattage on the amp? Originally it was listed at 20 watts and in some of the threads it was said to be more like 18 to 19 watts but on the site it is listed as 15 watts. Doc, what is the actual wattage of the amp? Have one on order through Humbucker but was wondering if I will be keeping both the Cure and the Z Lux or if I will be able to get rid of the Z Lux for a more portable gigging amp in the Cure.

And he said 19 watts with the batch of tubes he was shipping with....he put 15 on the website to 'underrate ' the power.

Output is a flexible variable, especially with cathode biased amps. The best way knowing is to play both side by side and determine which you like better. The Cure can do anywhere from 15 to 20 watts depending on the grade of 6v6s. Initial prototypes were built and rated at 20 watts due to high headroom 6v6s, and since the Cure is cathode biased the amount of output can be variable due to the grade of tubes. We select a medium grade for production models which puts out approximate 17-18 watts. The difference between 15-20 watts is extremely marginal, however if you rely on the Z Lux and it's 40 watts of output, it's hard to say if the Cure will replace your Z Lux. While there is overlap, they have two different feels and voicings. The amount of output power does not determine how perceptively loud an amp is. A mid voiced 30 watt vox amp at full tilt will always sound as loud (if not louder) than a 80 watt twin reverb in a mix due to it's voicing. At cranked volumes you will find the Cure to sit very nicely in a mix due to its more mid-centric voicing. If you are looking for clean and loud, it's more likely that a Z Lux ran clean with 40 watts of headroom will give you more flexibility than a Cure ran clean.

I usually run the Z Lux at 20 watts when I'm out playing and I also have a Z-brake installed for when I play at home to get brake up out of the amp. I believe the Cure will do it for me but I was just curious about the different versions of wattage listed.
