I was just wondering if a venue with weird or bad wiring will damage my Therapy or Ghia. I might have to use my amps at a place where I know the wiring is strange.
what I mean is that when the guitar volume (any guitar) is turned up there is a weird static noise in the mains and monitors. I do use a good surge protector power strip but I'm not sure if that matters with this issue. I'm not a tech savvy guy when it comes to wiring a house for sound and it seems like nobody can figure out the problem. It's a new building and a very expensive and up to date sound system.
I know there are devices that eliminate or control these kind of issues but that's not really what I'm inquiring about. I simply want to know if my amps will be safe. Thanks!

You're probably hearing fluorescent lamp noise. Amps with a power supply like what the Doc uses in most of his amps, a tube rectified linear power supply, is not going to be anywhere near as sensitive as a more modern, switching power supply digital ss amp. But it's a good idea to protect from voltage spikes. In my own experience, I have never had a failure from 'dirty' power. Noise in the amp, but no damage to it. That said, it's a good idea to have a power strip with a surge suppressor in it, which 98% of them do. It's a simple component called an MOV designed to short out and thus open up the circuit breaker on the strip, and it activates when the voltage swings above a specified voltage, usually around 140 volts. Many of the surge supressing power strips that you see make big claims about what they will do for you and your equipment, and I've had the chance to open a lot of them up to see what's inside. It's usually just an MOV. The cost of an MOV? About twenty five cents. I always carry a little tester the size of a plug, with three LED's on it that light up to indicate proper AC wiring. You definitely don't want to plug into AC that isn't properly grounded!

I've been using a Furman PL Plus for decades without an issue, and I've played some seedy establishments...

I use a Furman surge protector purchased from Sweetwater. I baby my amps and would hate for something to go wrong

I'd say you've got your bases covered well. Furman makes well built equipment.

I've done this for years, but have often faced clubs with NO properly grounded plugs near the stage. Then it's "plug and pray" and don't touch the mic or stand while wearing the guitar. 😱

I lost two KT66s a few years back due to bad power at an outdoor venue.

I lost two KT66s a few years back due to bad power at an outdoor venue. That's scary! Was that with a good surge protector?

Yes. I ALWAYS use surge protection. I did buy an even better Furman system after that though. No problems since then.
