I had surgery on my right knee back in July to repair a torn meniscus. It turned out not much was left after the "repair" but I was hopeful I would be able to recover to start carrying my gear. It hasn't happened, and as a matter of fact the knee continues to fill with fluid and has to be drained. All this time, if I had a gig or was playing Sundays, my wife would have to load the car and I'd have someone unload it once I arrived. I use my 8 for most gigs but the weight was a lot for my wife to haul around (and she did because she loves me - and bought it for me!). Over the years I've read reviews here re Peter Mather and his cabs, so I emailed him re a head cab for the 8 chassis. He already had the dimensions - even the lineup of the mounting bolts. I jumped on it and ordered a blond head cab so I can lighten the load a bit, but also be able to use the 8 with other speaker cabs I have. I should get it around Feb 4th and am looking forward to it. I didn't want to go through selling my studio combo just to buy a head version when I could get the same results this way. The 8 is a keeper - no matter what.

This is timely for me. I've been nursing a bad right knee since my bicycle accident last year. Hauling gear was getting difficult for me too. I ordered a MAZ 8 combo a few months ago with a lightweight cab mostly because of that. Shortly after I received it my LEFT knee went out on me when carrying a monitor wedge up some stairs. I had an MRI two days ago and they say I'm "bone on bone". Torn meniscus. The doc immediately started talking about a knee replacement. I said "Whoa", I'm not ready for that. We are going to have to explore every other option for as long as I can before we do that. So far I can still carry my MAZ 8 as long as it's on my right side and I go slow. Actually, most of the time it is rolling on a little hand truck I have that folds up. Now I'm doubly glad I bought the MAZ 8. Besides being light to haul I was happy to find it is one of the best sounding amps I've ever owned.

Man, we're all going through health challenges this year...Hope that there is a viable option to joint replacement. Praying for healing and wellness, brother!

Let me know if you want to sell the studio cab. It's not in the plan to sell it, but if it leans in that direction I will let you know!

A little late in updating, but Peters cab arrived last weekend. It looks great (the tolex matches perfectly), the switch from the combo cab to the head cab went flawlessly (pre-drilled holes and chassis line up were perfect), and as I had mentioned it is great to be able to pair the head with my other speaker cabs. The weight from Peter's cab (w/chassis 24 lbs) made a difference as well Thanks Peter!!

Peter Mather's stuff is awesome--and so is his service. Just had him build me (another) custom combo-cab [for a non-Z amp] lately. One little detail got mixed up, and he fixed it right away for me. Top notch quality--high degree of craftsmanship and low weight!--and top notch service, too.

Top notch quality--high degree of craftsmanship and low weight!--and top notch service, too. I put my new Maz 8 head on the bathroom scale and it came in at 24lbs, but on the Z website it has the Maz 8 head coming in at 32lbs. It's hard to believe there's that much weight difference in material.

I seem to remember frankie posting somewhere that somehow the packed weights all over the Z site are displayed as product weights and they're in the process of fixing it.
