Anybody tried a Fane Ascension A60 or A90 Alnico speaker? I've read a some good things about these speakers. I'm thinking about trying one out.
This demo has the A60 Alnico in it, plus the F70 ceramic (which sounds pretty good too).

Yeah, Roger I found this speaker demo as well, featuring an EZG-50 through the Fane F70 ceramic. Apparently it received a Players Pick award from Guitar Player magazine too. Also Avatar is selling a few versions of Fane made drivers, one of which is tweaked to their specs.

Sounds like a quality speaker.
I've been looking to go Alnico, but would love to find something in the 96 - 98 dB range. Fane's are all 100 dB.

Update: This speaker is really good! I've been using it in a 1x12 open back cabinet alongside a V-30 in a 1x12 open back cabinet. I've pushed the speaker with my EZG-50 and my Galaxie.
This may be the best speaker I've tried so far. It has a very warm tone with a nice midrange and not too much low. The treble is smooth and not fizzy. It kind of reminds me of listening to a vinyl album (if that makes since). It has more of a vintage analog sound, instead of a crisp digital sound.
I've only paired it with a V-30. Both speakers are 100db and work well for my guitar sounds.

How does the Fane A60 sound by itself? I'm trying to decide between it or a Celestion Cream. Thanks in advance!

Hey Shaun. I think it sounds awesome by itself. Though I haven't compared it to any other Alnico speakers. The Celestion Alnico cream back sounds pretty good in the demos I've heard, but $300 is a lot for one speaker. I'd love to compare them side by side, but I don't know anyone who has a Creamback.
I will say I found the sound I was looking for with the A60 and it's cured my gas for 12" speakers. I am considering experimenting with some 10" speakers next.
