I've been re-tubing my Monza to soften and warm up the tone a little. I tried a bunch of pre-amp tubes and ended up picking Gold Lion 12ax7's which sound wonderful in this amp.
I thought I'd also try the Gold Lion el84's. One of the tube stores says they are not recommended for cathode bias amps. But Sweetwater sells them without any qualification.
So I e-mailed Electro Harmonix and a representative said this:
"The N709/EL84 Genalex Gold Lion tubes are primarily intended for use in hi-fi amplifiers. The Tung-Sol EL84/6BQ5 would be a better choice for your Dr Z amplifier. You should order a matched set with middle matching numbers for cathode biased amplifiers."
Hopefully, the Mullard El84's will also be o.k. Based on the reviews I read, they have the tone I'm looking for, so I ordered a set of those.
Anyway, I thought the forum might be interested. Apparently, Gold Lions are not an option for the Monza.

What speaker are you running with the Monza?

I bought the amp with a G12H Anniv. installed. But I'm going to try an Eminence Private Jack instead. I like the G12M tone better, and the Private Jack is my favorite G12M clone.

Tried the Private Jack and didn't like it. I'm back to the G12H Anniversary.
I like Gold Lions over the JJ ECC83's, and Reissue Mullards over the JJ El84's. Those two changes really smoothed and softened the tone considerably.

a 5V4 rectifier put my monza in smoother territory, no one talks about rectifiers much, you can use a solid state, 5ar4, or a 5V4 for different shades in a monza and some other Z's

I have a the 110 combo with the red fang. I like the info provided because I have been thinking my monza can sound just a bit harsh at times. but then when I hear a recording with band on the same setting, it seems to sound nice in the mix. So I guess I am not in a hurry to change much as of yet. But eventually change tubes I will. 😬
